We are seeking a bright and highly motivated attorney to join our legal team as Litigation Counsel. In this position, you will play a key role in supporting the enterprise’s business objectives and well as defending and pursuing its legal interests. Your areas of focus will include litigation and escalated customer disputes, as well as supporting dealer compliance enforcement. Also, because we are a small legal team, we are seeking a flexible team player who relishes the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and cover the broad range of day-to-day legal needs of the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage litigation matters, including oversight and collaboration with outside counsel, for UACC and its affiliates, Vroom and CarStory
  • Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and other court documents, respond to discovery requests, and prepare for hearings, trials, and arbitrations
  • Advise internal stakeholders on legal risks associated with business activities and proposed courses of action
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the legal and compliance team, as well as cross-functional teams across the organization, to achieve strategic objectives, manage legal risks effectively, and effect resolution among all parties
  • Keep abreast of legal developments, trends, and best practices relevant to the company’s business.
  • Draft and review commercial agreements and other contracts
  • Collaborate with and manage outside counsel where applicable

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential duties. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Member in good standing of the Texas bar
  • Additional membership in good standing of the California bar is a plus
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Litigation experience required
  • Both law firm and in-house experience preferred
  • Ability to multitask, work independently and carry out important projects with limited oversight
  • Experience with and understanding of the automotive or consumer finance industry is a plus
  • Excellent business judgement and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to negotiate proactively and effectively with internal and external parties
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to provide clear and concise business-focused legal advice
  • A team player mindset, pitching in wherever needed
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and a desire for learning new areas of law and regulation in a variety of jurisdictions
