Caterpillar Inc. seeks Sr. Electronic Components/Platforms Engineer at its facility located at 14009 Old Galena Rd, Mossville, IL 61552.
Develop, improve, and troubleshoot electronic/electrical hardware used in an array of engine and machine systems. Include the development of product requirements, analysis and simulation, electronic component selection, schematic/layout development, and platform verification and validation. Perform in partnership with suppliers including the manufacturing plan and process development. Perform complex analysis work, identify design problems, and resolve problems. Transition from individual contributor to team leadership, focusing on technical delivery. Decisions may affect the project team and its delivery of the project. Develop platforms effectively, working closely with Engine and Machine System/Subsystem team members to understand application requirements and performance needs. Knowledge of analog and digital hardware design and/or product application is necessary to develop robust solutions and assess the application suitability as well as a thorough understanding of the mechanical and environmental requirements for the application. In addition to new development, current production hardware will be maintained and supported through the platform lifecycle including obsolescence management. Position includes a strong focus on quality through simulation, analysis, verification, and validation testing at the component level, subsystem, and system level. Advanced troubleshooting and analysis skills to resolve complex development and field issues and to improve overall performance and cost. Bear significant responsibility for completion of projects with major focus on delivery. Provide technical leadership and potential training to new staff members. Good communication skills for technical status updates, component reviews, and when working closely with other internal and external teams in multiple geographic locations and organizations. Keep up with industry trends and new technology breakthroughs is essential and requires continuous learning through self/internet study.
REQS: This position requires a Bachelor’s, degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and seven (7) years of experience as a Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Harness failures, electronics validation, harness design, and manufacturing; (2) Lead technical design reviews and work with cross-functional subsystems to communicate trade-offs and negotiate specifications for complex electro-mechanical designs; (3) 3D wire-routing techniques to create cost effective and reliable designs; (4) Design, develop, and test the manufacture and installation of electrical equipment, wiring, components, and systems; and (5) Application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to ensure performance of mechanical assemblies.
