We're seeking a Senior Data Analyst to lead the charge in developing and enhancing the data analytics framework within our Corporate Risk & Audit (CR&A) division. The Senior Data Analyst is instrumental in supporting the Corporate Risk & Audit functions (i.e. Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Controls, and Internal Audit). Operating with autonomy and expected to work closely with a broad range of stakeholders across the organization, the Senior Data Analyst is responsible for establishing and maintaining the data analytics program within Corporate Risk & Audit. This includes performing more advanced analysis, build mechanisms for ongoing assessment of key risks and continuous auditing, and help deliver data-driven, timely insights to stakeholders on risk management and control performance. While the position reports to the Director of Internal Audit, its influence spans the entire CR&A department, contributing to diverse collaborative projects and department-wide strategic objectives.
In addition, the Senior Data Analyst is expected to drive the implementation of initiatives related to CR&A's Technology Strategy while collaborating with department staff to identify and act on opportunities for innovation.
Must have:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant discipline, and a minimum of 4 years of experience in an analytical role using business intelligence tools, and proficiency with SQL and Python
Experience in Power BI or similar modern data visualization tools
Experience conducting requirements gathering and business analysis
Experience learning, conducting technical data analysis, and extracting and transforming data from complex data stores
Expertise in data manipulation, reporting techniques, and building insight dashboards
Excellent communication skills including general business acumen, visualization and storytelling through data
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also considered
Preferred:
Institutional investment industry experience and/or knowledge of capital markets is an asset
Experience with Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Controls, or Internal Audit
As an independent function, the Corporate Risk & Audit (CR&A) department is responsible for supporting management and the Board’s oversight of BCI, as well as providing advisory services upon request. Comprised of three branches – Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Controls, and Internal Audit – this department helps BCI understand and monitor the key risks that could impact organizational objectives, advises management on potential mitigation strategies, and provides assurance on the ongoing effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control activities.
Data Analytics Program:
Assist the Director, Internal Audit in creating and implementing a data analytics program within the CR&A department
Build relationships with stakeholders to identify data sources that enhance the program
Maintains documentation on data analytics processes, including dashboards, reports, and process automation
Develops a training program to foster an analytics-oriented culture within the department
Proactively identifies opportunities to utilize data and analytics to deliver new insights, drive value, and provide efficiencies
Collaborates with Corporate Data & Operations department to align CR&A’s data analytics program to the corporate data strategy
Department Analytics Support:
Collaborates with CR&A team and stakeholders to identify and action use cases for data manipulation, automation, and advanced analytics
Develops data solutions to inform decision-making and offers data-driven insights to enhance internal controls and risk management practices
Generates dashboards and visualizations for risk management and assurance, and assists in preparing analysis results for an executive and board-level audience
Gathers and manipulates complex datasets in accordance with BCI’s data management and security practices
Process Automation and Innovation:
Collaborates with CR&A staff to identify key processes for automation to improve efficiency and or accuracy
Designs, develops, and maintains automated workflows for data collection, analysis, and reporting
Monitors and maintains automation tools to ensure operation and alignment with department needs
Explores and implements innovative technologies and methodologies to improve data analytics and department processes
Work from our downtown Victoria office. We are an in-person collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely 1-day a week.

The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $87,000- $105,000.
The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.
