Senior Site Reliability Engineer (m/f/d), ICIS, Karlsruhe / Germany

We have an outstanding opportunity available for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (m/f/d) for our Analytics Platform team within our Technology division, working closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, Data Engineers, Application Support and Product Development.  The role will involve building and supporting analytics systems, models and environments.

We are looking for a collaborative self-starter with a fresh perspective, happy to offer new approaches to existing solutions, who welcomes different points of view on the same subject matter and, crucially, has the ability to think from a “customer first” perspective.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available and scalable container-based infrastructure using Docker and Kubernetes or AWS ECS.

  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability for containerized applications.

  • Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to define best practices for containerization and deployment.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to container orchestration, networking, and storage.

  • Implement and maintain automated deployment, scaling, and monitoring solutions for containerized environments.

  • Ensure security best practices are followed, including vulnerability scanning, container hardening, and access controls.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute disaster recovery procedures and backup strategies.

  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in containerization, orchestration, and cloud technologies.

Required skills and experience:

  • Proven experience as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) or similar role, with a focus on containerization and orchestration.

  • Proficiency in Linux system administration and troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and related services.

  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols relevant to containerized environments.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex issues in distributed systems.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience with automation and configuration management tools IAC (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)

  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.

  • Basic understanding of relational databases systems like Postgres, MySQL/MariaDB or any other relational database.

  • ML Ops (Databricks)

  • Kubernetes or AWS ECS.

  • Kafka

  • Data Science experience
