Job Title: Metallurgical/Materials Engineer
Salary: £38,832 - £45,000 (Depending on experience)
Location: Peterborough

The Opportunity - Full time opportunity for a skilled Metallurgical/Materials Engineer to join our team in Peterborough.
In this role, you will provide materials engineering support to all of Caterpillar’s UK facilities, which provides the opportunity of being involved in investigating a wide range of different materials in multiple applications
Whilst this is a technical role, you will also be required to build collaborative partnerships across the Caterpillar UK facilities to provide feedback and insights to both internal and external audiences.
What You Will Do:
As a Metallurgical / Materials Engineer in Caterpillar you will.
Partner with and provide technical guidance to other teams
Gather relevant information, compare, and contrast data; identify relationships to support you to predict and identify failures.
Provide results and assessment back into the business; this could be impactful output that may affect the work group or project team, suppliers, multiple units, and both internal and external customers. This insight will have significant impact on warranty, total cost of non-quality, customer perception, costs, sales, and the leveraging of technology.
What You Have: Demonstrated working knowledge of:
Materials Science/Metallurgy degree and/or substantive practical working experience within a materials laboratory environment
Information Capture: Knowledge of the methods, channels and processes to obtain needed information; ability to identify, capture and document relevant business information in an auditable, organized, understandable and easily retrievable manner.
Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Engaging communicator; able to convey technical assessments and results to both technical and non-technical colleagues
Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
Metallurgical / materials evaluation of new products, processes, or systems
Providing technical guidance on product and process maintenance
Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to Identify metallurgical / materials manufacturing defects and make process improvement recommendations
Top Candidates Will Also:
Experience of working in an ISO17025 Accredited Laboratory
Experience of corrosion testing
Experience of non-metallics testing

We operate a hybrid working week consisting of three days in the office and two from home.
