Position Summary
The Manager for Off Campus Undergraduate Student Life is responsible for supporting and providing education for both undergraduate and graduate students living in neighborhoods surrounding Washington University’s Danforth campus.
The manager supervises three Neighborhood Liaisons in their part-time role as advocates and mediators for student and neighbor relations in three primary neighborhoods surrounding campus. This person chairs the Neighborhood C.A.R.E. (Connect. Advocate. Respect. Engage.) team, a university-wide interdisciplinary group, focused on promoting connection, advocacy, respect, and engagement.
The manager collaborates with the following campus partners on a regular basis:

• Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Neighborhood Relations
- Create opportunities for communication and build collaborative relationships between students, neighbors, landlords, law enforcement, and the university.
- Maintain a database of off-campus students.
- Chair the Neighborhood C.A.R.E. group leading regular meetings, retreats, creating a year-long calendar, and maintaining group goals and expectations.
- Provide community focused events and programs including bringing neighbors to campus and doing programs in the neighborhoods (ex. Neighbor Day Basketball Game, Lightening Your Load).
Off Campus Undergraduate Student Engagement and Support
- Develop a regular communication strategy with the goal of promoting responsible citizenship, improving student behavior, enhancing student safety and security, and responding to key issues.
- Understand, communicate, and hold students accountable to University policies and procedures. On behalf of the Dean of Students, respond to emergency off-campus housing crisis needs.
- Serve on after-hours, on-call duty visiting the neighborhoods for identified times of the year when there is an increase in student visitors and high potential for concerning behavior to occur including W.I.L.D., Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, Move-In, and Move-Out.
- Build partnerships with WUPD, Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, local law enforcement, alcohol distributors, and bar/restaurant owners to help address student behaviors in the neighborhoods surrounding campus.
Off Campus Student Living Education
- Provide educational resources related to independent and off-campus living for undergraduate students.
- Create educational campaigns around positive student behavior and positive interaction in the neighborhoods.
- Build a curriculum for a “responsible renter program” and connect students to resources for safety inspections and legal services related to renting apartments.
- Maintain and manage an off-campus living guide, provide an orientation for students living off campus, and help maintain a website with tenant resources.
- Assist with referrals for roommate resources and foster relationships between leasing agent/owners and potential renters.
- Maintain a website, social media platforms and marketing campaigns that will promote engagement and dissemination of information to students living off campus.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Serve on various committees and initiatives in order to maintain a strong connection to the university community and surrounding communities to ensure a broad array of programs and advocacy for students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree Counseling, Social Work, Student Personnel Administration or related field.
- Three to five years of post-masters experience in residence life and/or student conduct.
- Experience working with off campus student engagement and supporting students living in apartment-style housing.
- Strong administrative and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to exercise superior judgment and discretion, as well as maintain integrity and confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Higher Education or related field or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Salary Range
$49,700.00 - $82,100.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
