SambaNova Systems is seeking a Principal Technical Accountant to help us build a high functioning and efficient Accounting team. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this position will play a critical role in building and managing systems and processes that will scale with our rapidly growing business as we progress towards an IPO.

Our ideal candidate is someone who is hands-on and embraces problem solving. We’re looking for someone with a strong background in accounting, deep knowledge of technical accounting standards, and experience working with cloud-based systems, particularly NetSuite and Salesforce. Experience with other ERP’s such as Oracle and SAP that can be transferable to this role is also a plus. This position will be responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant revenue recognition, tracking of inventory and COGS, managing financial systems, and partnering with IT to drive process improvements. 

Responsibilities:

Accounting and Audit Coordination

  • Ensure all accounting postings are recorded on an accurate and timely basis
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP in all technical accounting areas, including revenue (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), and equity (ASC 505 and 718)
  • Actively manage all aspects of monthly, quarterly and annual financial close including reviewing key accounting postings, detailed account reconciliations, and financials for accuracy and quality
  • Work closely with the Engineering and Operational functions on inventory management, costing, and gross margins 
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of inventory operations and accounting, including cost accounting, valuation methods, lower of cost or market, obsolescence, rework, and scrap
  • Support the Controller in preparation of analysis, supporting schedules, details, and information to support the annual statutory reporting, corporate audits, corporate tax filings, and income tax provisions
  • Develop and maintain audit plans and procedures
  • Stay up-to-date on technical accounting standards and emerging issues
  • Ensure compliance reporting, including property tax, sales and use tax, franchise tax, and statement of information, are prepared and filed timely

Process and Systems

  • Support the Controller in the configuration, development and maintenance of all key business process and systems including NetSuite, Coupa,Salesforce and Carta
  • Drive process improvements and optimize efficiencies in all accounting areas, including elimination or streamlining of manual or non-effective tasks
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure system integrations and data integrity

Revenue Recognition

  • Ensure accurate and compliant revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
  • Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies and procedures
  • Assist in refreshing the standalone selling price analysis to support revenue allocations at least annually 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition
  • Partner with sales operations to reflect new bookings timely 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting or Finance
  • 8+ years of accounting experience
  • CPA/CA license is required
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel including advanced functions such as pivot tables and macros
  • Experience with NetSuite and Salesforce. 
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good business acumen and analytical skills
  • Systems savvy and ability to extract data

Preferred Qualifications

  • AI/ML industry experience
  • Experience working in fast-growing startup environment 
  • Cloud or supply chain experience
  • Familiarity with other ERPs (e.g. Oracle or SAP)

Annual Salary Range and Level:

The base salary for this position ranges from $115,000 - $150,000 per year. This range is based on role, level, and location and reflects the salary target for new hires in the US. Individual pay within the range will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s job-related qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. #LI-TG1
