Role Definition

The role sits within the Banking Coverage team within Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (SCIB) in the UK.

The Banking team’s main objective is to manage and support the bank’s SCIB client base in connection with all Santander banking products.

Role Specifics

The Banking team is a high performing and established team, in which managing clients and internal stakeholders to deliver against an agreed budget is the key responsibility. This role allows the opportunity to cover clients in various sectors and jurisdictions, providing continuous learning and development opportunities.

The Associate of the Banking Team, will be responsible for supporting Bankers within the Banking Team and the MD of the business.

Each banker manages a portfolio of clients based in the UK and the Associate will be responsible in supporting the development of client relationships through assisting the banker in all aspects of their job.

The Associate will support the bankers in covering their clients, and will need an understanding of all Santander Corporate and Investment Banking products, with a strong focus on Transactional Banking, including Cash & Liquidity Management, Trade & Working Capital Solutions and FX.

The Associate will be required to work closely with product partners to deliver local and regional based solutions. They will be expected to help identify, develop, and execute new business initiatives to increase client penetration.

As the volume of new business in the team is high, this role requires proactivity and a solid understanding of the product suite, as well as strong collaborative skills and ability to take ownership of tasks.  

The Associate will support the bankers in delivering the agreed budgeted growth of the portfolio, which will contribute to their end of year performance review.

  • Preparation of materials for client meetings
  • Follow up of client meetings and execution of mandates
  • Pipeline management
  • Preparation of credit papers for presentation at Internal Committees
  • Support of Know Your Customer (KYC) Onboarding of new clients and maintenance of existing clients
  • Client Pitchbook creation
  • Management Information & Reporting
  • Other general responsibilities that may come as part of the role

What we’re looking for

  • Broad experience of the main product areas of SCIB, namely; Corporate Finance, GTB, FS&A, RSG and DCM is preferred.
  • A Degree (or equivalent), preferably in a numerical discipline such as economics or finance, is preferred but we will consider talented individuals with relevant experience or skills for roles.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, modelling skills are essential and required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely and defend their validity.
  • Ability to comfortably interact with people in a professional and mature manner.
  • High levels of attention to detail, diligence and conscientiousness, ensuring quality of client deliverables.
  • Self-motivated, tenacious and able to work with high degree of independence.
  • Excellent technology skills with superior Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, and ability to quickly learn new software applications.
  • Creativity, problem solving skills, flexibility in approach and the ability to work with members of multiple product groups at the same time. Ability to analyse complex client financial objectives.
  • Strong organizational skills are required
  • Ability to comfortably interact and present to internal meetings including committees in a professional and mature manner.
  • Fluency in English is essential. Spanish / Portuguese / Others is a plus.
  • Ability to develop logical and well-reasoned argument to influence and motivate others.
