Why you?

The Legal Director role is a key single-contributor role in the Taiwan business, with a wide range of responsibilities such as  

  • Serving as a member of the LOC Leadership Team in Taiwan
  • Also serving as member of the regional GCI Legal leadership team alongside the legal directors from other GCI markets
  • Key stakeholder and adviser in business team meetings such leadership team meetings, risk management compliance boards, country executive boards and other governance committees as appropriate 
  • Providing proactive and strategic legal counselling for all aspects of business operations in Taiwan (pharmaceuticals, biologicals, and research & development (clinical studies), integrating legal knowledge with a sound business understanding and aligned with risk management considerations and GSK global policy and culture
  • Anticipating and proactively supporting the prevention and management of legal and compliance risks facing all aspects of the business operations 
  • Draft, develop, advise on and execute contracts and other legal documents of legal, strategic, financial/regulatory importance
  • Recommend policies and provide training on areas of laws and regulations affecting the pharma industry and advise business management on appropriate legal compliance measures.  
  • As legal business partner, being a strong influence on risk management and advising on risk judgment calls to be taken in relation to business and operations; advising on appropriate strategy to manage / mitigate risks 
  • Supporting internal and external investigations and all forms of disputes; and communications with the regulators / authorities
  • Proactive engagement and coordinated alignment with other stakeholders and subject matter expert groups including Patents, Trademarks, Data Privacy, Business Development Transactions, Dispute Resolution and Prevention and Global Manufacturing and Supply
  • Managing legal budget in a cost efficient and effective manner (including outside counsel spend) and managing and developing effective relationships with external counsel firms
  • Operate independently, with minimum supervision, although with close coordination and support from above country legal team as appropriate.
     

Basic/ Preferre Qualifications:

  • At least 7-10 years PQE with license to practice law in Taiwan that is active and in good standing.  Effective communicator in spoken and written Mandarin and English.
  • Combination of private practice and/or in-house experience (healthcare/pharmaceutical in-house experience preferred)
  • Experience in counselling senior business leaders in a highly regulated industry on matters such as business transactions, commercialisation of products, regulatory code compliance, promotional and non-promotional activities, risk management and governance, with demonstrated management of complex matters
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and work effectively across different priorities with a strategic mindset and persuasive advocacy skills.  Key Strategic Legal Counselling characteristics – technically proficient, effective communicator, good judgment, good business knowledge and strong business acumen.
  • Demonstrable EQ, ability to work and partner effectively within a complex matrixed organisation across different cultures and timezones
  • Solutions-focused mindset and excellent analytical and problem solving skills 
  • Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective team player
