Hogan Lovells is a leading global law firm, providing business-oriented legal advice and high-quality service across its breadth of practices to clients around the world. Our growing, dynamic Marketing and Business Development (M&BD) department is looking for the right candidate to serve as the Marketing and Business Development Manager for our (i) International Arbitration practice (IA), which sits within our Litigation, Arbitration and Employment (LAE) practice, and our (ii) New York Office, which is a strategic growth priority for the firm.
This position will support of the marketing activities of both the International Arbitration practice globally (50%) and the New York office (50%) across varying markets and clients through framing and driving marketing and business development activities and programs that strengthen our reputation, engage clients, and drive revenue.
This individual will work in our New York office as part of a global team. S/he will report jointly into the Marketing & Business Development Director - Client Development & International Arbitration and the Senior Marketing & Business Development Manager, D.C. & Northeast Region. The Manager will work closely with the Practice Area Leader for International Arbitration and the New York Office Managing Partner.
The M&BD Manager will actively participate in learning about the firm’s service offerings, lawyers, and clients to lead initiatives based on their enhanced knowledge of our clients, their business needs, the competitive landscape of both the global International Arbitration and New York legal markets, and firm capabilities. They will be expected to build strong working relationships with the International Arbitration Practice and New York office leadership teams, as well as other key partners to develop and execute and manage a range of business development and marketing initiatives aligned with the firm’s strategic priorities. This is a highly collaborative role. In addition to the M&BD responsibilities for International Arbitration, this Manager will also collaborate with M&BD support for the broader LAE Americas practice, and other firm practices including Corporate & Finance (C&F), and Global Regulatory and Intellectual Property, Media & Technology where they relate to the New York office’s M&BD efforts.
INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Director of Client Development and International Arbitration to develop and implement marketing goals, initiatives, and strategies to support business development.
- Serve as the liaison with other M&BD regional colleagues globally to coordinate activities to promote and develop business.
- Manage responses to RFPs, customized pitches, and business development presentations, including crafting targeted positioning and strategy, and overseeing delegated tasks related to client acquisition.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities with existing practice group clients and other firm clients and work with global, national, and regional M&BD colleagues and attorneys to expand client relationships.
- Work with the firm's communications team to build profile for the practice internally and externally by publicizing victories, news items, events, and relevant articles.
- Manage the awards and rankings program for International Arbitration globally, including vendor management and oversight of coordinator tasks.
- Manage production of seminars, receptions, internal events and other marketing-oriented events and activities, including in concert with the firm’s events team and junior M&BD resources.
- In coordination with the communications team, evaluate sponsorships and opportunities to participate in various directories. Negotiate agreements and manage participation in sponsorships and directories to ensure that the firm receives the maximum return on its investment.
- Monitor industry and legal trends and competitor marketing initiatives to ensure practice stays ahead of the curve and is seen as an industry leader.
- Support the integration of lateral partners and counsel.
- Manage collection of information on practice group experience credentials for inclusion in marketing collateral and industry ranking programs, optimizing use of firm technology.
- Work with practice area attorneys in the development and production of internal and client communications.
NEW YORK OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with the Office Managing Partner (OMP) and Northeast Regional Senior M&BD Manager on the development and implementation of a range of marketing and BD strategies for the New York Office and support the OMP on the development of the wider office business plan.
- Develop and manage a cohesive and concise M&BD plan for the New York Office and manage the associated New York M&BD office budget.
- Conduct research and analyze New York market intelligence, as well as industry and client data, to identify developments and trends that may offer emerging new opportunities to target clients for new business and raise profile.
- As part of the M&BD plan, develop, execute and follow-up on cross-office M&BD initiatives, working with the relevant attorneys and other M&BD and Corporate Communications colleagues on the ground in New York.
- Working with colleagues in M&BD, develop and track inter-office client targeting, revenue generation and profile-raising initiatives, with a focus on building and capitalizing in particular on our links between New York and our Engines – D.C., London, Paris and Germany.
- Identify, evaluate and presenting opportunities for branding and profile-raising for the New York office in the marketplace, and more widely within the firm.
- Support on office-specific pitches and credentials.
- Help to manage and ensure timely and effective execution of New York office-wide client and other major events, working with the regional Events team and other M&BD and Business Team members on the ground.
- Support on the integration of new lateral hires into the New York office.
SUPERVISORY REPSONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate closely with other members of the regional and global M&BD and Corporate Comms team, with a particular focus on M&BD colleagues in the LAE, New York office, and Americas region.
REQUIRED SKILLS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Seven (7) + years of relevant experience preferred, preferably in a legal or similar professional services industry within New York.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Spanish language would be an asset but is not required.
- Core hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including one hour for lunch. Must be flexible to work additional hours.
The annualized salary range for this position is $131,650 to $193,050 depending on the candidate's overall experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full time employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. In addition, full time employees as well as some part time employees, will be eligible for the firm’s fringe benefits as they currently exist.
