The Executive Communications Director is the CEO's key communications partner, amplifying the CEO's voice and vision to elevate the organization's brand recognition and drive its strategic goals. Reporting to the CEO's Chief of Staff and working directly with the CEO, this position collaborates closely with Brand Communications, Marketing, Internal Communications, and Investor Relations and will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive executive thought leadership strategy across multiple channels. Working in tandem with communication counterparts, the role ensures that executive messages and content align harmoniously with broader communication strategies and media plans. This opportunity is ideal for a dynamic communicator who excels in a constantly evolving, fast-paced, and highly collaborative setting.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute an annual strategic executive communications plan for the CEO, driving brand awareness and advancing critical business objectives through messaging development and content creation in key areas such as product launches, partnerships, events, and thought leadership

  • Write, edit, and produce high-quality and engaging content for various communication platforms, such as executive presentations, speeches, blogs, newsletters, social media, webinars, and events 

  • Oversee CEO social media accounts to ensure strong, creative, and positive visibility.

  • Collaborate with the internal communications team to ensure coordinated internal-external strategy and messaging

  • Identify subject matter areas and craft narratives for different engagements; work closely with Workiva’s external communications team to coordinate media engagement and strategy, Workiva’s employee communications team to drive internal communications, and Workiva’s marketing team to build visual stories

  • Leverage writing and creative storytelling skills to build presentations, bylines, op-eds, media sound bites, and social media content 

  • Serve as program manager for key communications moments, including events, conferences, news launches, and more

What You’ll Need 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Undergraduate Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years of c-suite speech writing and executive communications experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant work experience in the SaaS industry strongly preferred.  Successful candidates must demonstrate curiosity about software products, technology, and innovation

  • Talented writer and storyteller adept at simplifying complex narratives for diverse audiences. A creative and strategic thinker who excels at transforming technical details into clear, engaging messages

  • Demonstrate a proactive work ethic by meeting deadlines with a focus on quality and accuracy. Possess strong attention to detail and proficient copy editing skills

  • Understanding of multimedia, visual storytelling, and modern communications platforms.

  • Self-starter and highly collaborative work habits 

  • Strong executive presence and presentation skills

  • Media relations experience identifying and securing opportunities, building relationships, and preparing spokespeople

  • Ability to work effectively with ambiguity and adapt to changing priorities and expectations in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

  • Ability to be strategic while also highly operative - developing the big picture and executing flawlessly on the small details

Travel Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Up to 25% travel for customer and internal meetings 

  • Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely and not in a Workiva office

How You’ll Be Rewarded

✅ Salary range in the US: $145,000.00 - $246,000.00

✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually

✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire

✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package
