What Is in It for You:

The Derivative Collateral Analyst is part of a Derivatives back-office team that is responsible for all aspects of collateral management, global derivative trade operations, and counterparty risk analysis/reporting. The position will report to the Manager of Derivative Collateral.

Reporting to the Manager of Derivative Collateral, the Derivative Collateral Analyst is part of the Derivatives back-office team that is responsible for all aspects of collateral management, global derivative trade operations, and counterparty risk analysis/reporting. The Derivative Collateral Analyst has a good understanding of counterparty credit risk, is knowledgeable with financial instruments and various types of derivatives, and possesses strong analytical skills. Collateral management is a major function within the team and the Analyst would be primarily responsible for the collateral call negotiation and settlement process and independently be able to manage it on a day-to-day basis.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Actively engage in the collateral management and negotiation process with counterparties

  • Processing margin calls on Acadia

  • Monitor and review Initial Margins for Uncleared Margin Regulations

  • Interacting with custodians for trade settlement issues and reconciliation inquiries

  • Engage in trade operations including system trade entry

  • Work with Sun Life valuations team to independently value derivative instruments (swaps, forwards, credit derivatives, swaptions, etc) for MTM negotiation with counterparties

  • Review, reconcile, and validate derivative valuations and collateral amounts with counterparties when disputes arise

  • Complete collateral-related accounting entries and reconciliation to the general ledger

  • Monitor counterparty credit ratings and update collateral agreements within system accordingly when rating changes occur  

  • Perform collateral sensitivity analysis to assess impact of market changes on derivative portfolio and resultant collateral requirements change

  • Manage collateral coupons and oversee all receipts and payments with the counterparties

  • Settle monthly interest with counterparties on cash collateral positions

  • Prepare various routine collateral-related reporting deliverables for managerial, analytical, and financial reporting purposes as well as handle ad hoc info requests

  • Support audit requests from both internal/external auditors when engaged

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED?

  • University Degree in Finance/Mathematics/Economics

  • 3+ years of experience in derivatives collateral management, or derivatives operations with counterparty interfaces

  • Enrollment in, or completion of, CFA/FRM program is an asset

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of BlackRock Aladdin and Bloomberg applications

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills; proven judgement around escalated communications

  • Detail-oriented, multi-tasking and managing task prioritization within tight timelines

  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills

Salary Range

The Base Pay range is for the primary location of the job.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
