Senior Investment Analyst, Private Credit Sector

Senior Investment Analyst in the Private Credit Sector will be part of HIMCO’s Alternative Assets that manages over $6B in assets under management. The senior investment analyst will underwrite and evaluate investment opportunities and participate broadly in overall investment selection. The individual will be responsible for research and analysis of the companies; making investment recommendations; evaluating value vs. comparable investments and participating in review of legal documentation. The senior investment analyst will maintain surveillance and oversight for certain credits within the private placement investment portfolio.

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in our Hartford, CT office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

This is an experienced level position where the analyst will be part of a team responsible for security selection, investment thesis and recommendation and ongoing issuer surveillance. Securities will include broader sectors including Utilities, Financial, Industrial, and certain core Infrastructure Assets. The senior investment analyst will support overall team initiatives including sector and portfolio management responsibilities. The individual must understand the private placement industry's dynamics, including issuer demands, market issuance and product distribution.

Responsibilities include:

  • Track new issue market and maintain data pipeline.
  • Maintain broker relationships and broad knowledge of industry and market dynamics.
  • Contribute to credit underwriting process focused on assessing business and industry risks, evaluating financial statements and related results.
  • Prepare financial models for companies under review including relative value analysis vs. comparable bonds and across asset sectors.
  • Support underwriting and credit committee process which includes input and preparation of Credit Reports for investment committee.
  • Support key functions within the investment management process including data integrity, tracking, and monitoring of security activity and holdings.
  • Responsible for ongoing credit surveillance and related risk management tracking and reporting for select set of issuers within specific industries.
  • Gain familiarity with legal documents associated with new deal offerings and amendment/waivers.
  • Provide input into Sector and Client Reporting including risk management and portfolio management.
  • Broaden expertise in core skills fundamental to investment management, including security, market, economic, and portfolio risk analyses, including fundamental and technical trends and regulatory matters.
  • Must be engaged in weekly team meetings and investment committee processes.

Technical / Functional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three to five years of credit experience, private placement preferred.
  • CFA (Certified Financial Analyst) pursuit is a plus butnot required.
  • Deep interest and basic knowledge of financial markets.
  • Strong drive, attention to detail, and a self-starter with a high degree of intellectual curiosity.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including use of technology.
  • Ability to assess and review multiple factors to provide a summary of analysis and make recommendations based on the information reviewed.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and verbal and written communications skills.
  • Some business-related coursework is preferred (e.g., finance, economics, mathematics, computer science etc.) and/or student investment or finance club experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Office, Excel and MS Access.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$97,750 - $132,250
