Job Description:

As the Sustainability Director at Schreiber Foods, you will lead the organization’s sustainability strategies and initiatives in Europe to achieve Schreiber’s vision to be a thought leader and responsible environmental steward that’s making a positive impact on our earth.

You will ensure cross-functional alignment and coordination in pursuit of Schreiber’s sustainability objectives, including climate change (SBTi targets for Scope 1, 2 and 3), sustainable packaging and resource recovery (waste and wastewater issues).

You will be responsible for engaging with clients and relevant external stakeholders to understand their sustainability objectives while being responsive to requests for sustainability- and ESG-related data.

You will ensure compliance with disclosure reporting requirements across EU member states and global standards, in collaboration with peers in other areas of the world.

Additionally, you will get to provide active, vocal thought leadership to the F&B industry on sustainability-related topics.

This position can be filled to work onsite at our home office in Green Bay, Wisconsin, or to work remotely within the United States. Travel will be expected up to 35% both domestic and international.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and advance sustainability strategies and initiatives in Europe, especially regarding climate change (Scopes 1, 2 and 3 accounting), regulatory compliance (CSRD), and data management with accountability for KPIs in that region.
  • Provide advice and technical guidance to employees and clients on best practices, standards and sustainability/ESG trends while incorporating the ability to meet environmental goals.
  • Ensure accurate, complete and timely execution of client-driven sustainability data requests/surveys and lead metric-based tracking of sustainability progress.
  • Work closely with customers to align and meet sustainability goals and requirements.
  • Oversee budgeting and financial forecasting for sustainability initiatives and related activities in Europe.
  • Work collaboratively with cross functional leaders to develop, implement, and monitor sustainability tools.
  • Create standardized processes, sustainability tools/forms for Schreiber locations, in collaboration with peers in other areas of the world.
  • Deploy excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills to drive success
  • Together with the leadership team, ensures compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans, in addition to customer requirements. Interprets and communicates customer requirements to plant production and/or support groups. Establishes and Audits PCPs, CCPs and Standard Operating Procedures to define and monitor processes, to ensure customer requirements are met. Reviews incidents during which the procedures are not met and determines appropriate corrective action for partners failing to follow standard procedures.

What you need to succeed

  • MBA/Masters in Sustainability, Environment Science, Business or other relevant field
  • 8+ years of experience in Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility, Data Analytics, Environmental Engineering, Climate Accounting, Business, Supply Chain
  • Working in Corporate GHG accounting, agriculture and/or dairy background. Ability to calculate and report Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. 
  • Experience in reporting progress in tools such as EcoVadis, Carbon Disclosure Project, RSPO, etc.
  • Knowledge of carbon standards and accounting principles (e.g., CDP, SBTi, GRI, SASB and GHG Protocol).
  • A positive would be to have background in water and waste management best practices.
  • Effective time management skills, as well as ability to respond positively under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a global environment with partners across different time zones.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally, up to 35% of the time.
