Position Summary
The Operations & Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus.
We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 10.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the world’s highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management.
Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors.
The Communications Program Manager will focus on communications for the Planning and Project Management teams. They will play a key role in developing and executing communication strategies that support the Operations and Facilities Management Department’s goals. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, managing communication channels, and ensuring messaging alignment across the department. The Communications Program Manager will create, enhance, and manage internal and external communication plans, including capital projects and planning communications, master planning, project highlights and significant project communications, web content, newsletters, events, and social media outreach.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Strategy Development: Collaborate with department leadership to develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies that align with departmental objectives and university goals.
- Internal Communications: Manage internal communication initiatives, including staff meeting agendas, leadership communications, and team offsite events, and assist with employee engagement activities.
- External Communications: Oversee the creation and distribution of external communications for planning and projects, including press releases, newsletters, web content, and social media updates. Work closely with media relations to support public speaking engagements and media opportunities.
- Content Creation and Management: Develop, review, and edit communication materials, including presentations, reports, and digital content. Ensure all communication materials are accurate, engaging, and consistent with the department’s messaging.
- Event Planning: Coordinate and manage department events, including all-hands meetings, leadership offsites, and team social events related to communications and campus planning. Develop engaging agendas, manage logistics, and ensure smooth execution.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including corporate communications, and operational support to ensure effective communication and alignment with broader university initiatives.
- Program Management: Administer communication programs, such as the department’s Excellence Through Action program, and collaborate with leadership to communicate successes in program delivery, operations, and assist with departmental communications related to structure, marketing, or other changes while highlighting the benefits of said changes. May also work on press releases and in some cases on projects/studies.
- Continuous Improvement: Regularly assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and materials and make data-driven improvement recommendations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range
$58,400.00 - $99,700.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
