POSITION SUMMARY:

 

AmeriVet is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and develop our payroll team while championing our company culture. This role requires a strategic mindset to scale our payroll department as our company continues to grow and develop. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Team Leadership: Manage direct reports in an office setting, including interviewing, onboarding, goal setting, feedback, coaching, development, and recognition. Lead by example to cultivate a positive and inclusive work environment that aligns with AmeriVet's values. 

  • Payroll Processing: Ensure timely and accurate processing of weekly payroll, including payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, and benefits, in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. Utilize Workday for payroll and provide configuration support as it relates to payroll processes. 

  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare reports or returns summarizing payroll-related expenditures. Balance payroll registers to W-2 on a quarterly and annual basis. Aid in the execution of more complex calculations or payroll situations. 

  • Vendor and Technology Management: Manage vendor relationships related to payroll processing and stay up-to-date on payroll software updates and technology advancements. Evaluate and recommend improvements to current payroll systems and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. 

  • Compliance and Policy Development: Stay current with laws and regulations related to payroll and make recommendations for changes to policies and procedures as needed. Ensure all payroll activities are conducted in compliance with regulatory requirements. 

  • Strategic Influence: Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures, while having the opportunity to influence departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change. Collaborate with senior leadership to align payroll operations with AmeriVet's growth objectives and strategic initiatives. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

  • Hybrid Remote Work: In office 3 days a week. 

  • Certification and Education: 

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional)  

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, business, finance, or accounting is a plus. 

 

 

  • Experience and Skills: 

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in payroll. 

  • 5+ years of leadership experience. 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll concepts and principles. 

  • Performs complex tasks typically following established processes. 

  • The ability to lead and direct the work of other associates while having full authority over personnel decisions. 

  • 1+ years of experience with Workday. 

  • 1+ years of experience with ADP smart compliance. 

  • 5+ years of experience with payroll tax and garnishments. 

  • 5+ years of experience with State and Federal payroll compliance. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve issues related to payroll processing. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion. 

Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles. 

Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. 

Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. 

Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. 

Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time. 

Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. 

Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. 

Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. 

Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles. 

Fingering. Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. 

Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. 

Feeling. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. 

Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. 

Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. 

Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. 

 

The physical requirements of this position are: 

  • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work. 

 

The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception and field vision are: 

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. 

 

The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position are: 

  • The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
