Northrop Grumman is seeking Configuration Management Engineers for an internship opportunity. This position will be located at our Mission Systems Sector in Sunnyvale, CA.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Maritime/Land Systems and Sensors division, Marine Systems business unit. Marine Systems is a leading provider of missile launch systems, propulsion systems, and power generation systems for naval submarines and surface ships.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist engineering with finding vendor parts for their requirements
  • Create and approve vendor and specification parts into system of record
  • Assist engineering with setting up Bill of Materials in Teamcenter data for new drawings
  • Assist engineering with Engineering Changes for released designs
  • Engineering support for Teamcenter problem issues
  • Report Creation and Maintenance: Maintain and develop reports for workflow processes. Update all reports as Workflow Managers update forms and processes. Include generating and managing Dashboards and tools to provide better metric outputs for Management visibility.
  • Software Configuration Management: Aid in the establishment and building of Software Configuration Management tools/procedures for the new tools being implemented. 
  • Legacy Documentation Library: Establish a legacy database and workflow for getting all the paper, Aperture cards and local drive files for legacy revisions and documentation in one searchable vault. Eliminating physical libraries and multiple p-drive and share site locations. 
  • Configuration Management (CM) website: Officially, establish a CM website that can function as a one stop shop for end users and our group by gathering desktop instructions, documentation and files all in one location.

Basic Qualifications

A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2025.
  • Be majoring in or having majored in Mechanical Engineering or other related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2025
  • Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
  • The ability to obtain Special Access Program within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher
  • Navy or other military experience
  • Active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance
  • Experience with Solid Modeling using a major CAD package, NX or CREO preferred
  • Ability to verify that features in CAD model match those shown in a mechanical drawing
  • Ability to learn to read a 2D drawing and interpret design intent in a 3D Environment
  • Computer literacy – knowledgeable in MS Office, Windows, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities while collaborating with others
  • Light CSSS coding experience to build custom queries
  • SharePoint website building knowledge

At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.

Pay Range:

Bachelor's: $20.25 - $37.25/hour

Master's: $29.25 - $46.25/hour
