Job Description:
Responsibilities
The Research Scientist II (RS II) will support the Maternal Health Innovation Initiative data team within the Bureau of Data Analytics, Research, and Evaluation (BDARE) and will provide direct supervision to a Research Scientist I.
The RS II will work under the leadership of Bureau staff and Division of Family Health leadership; they will also collaborate with the Bureau of Perinatal, Reproductive, and Sexual Health. This position will support data management activities and analysis for all initiatives within the Statewide Maternal Health Innovation (SMHI) Program.
The incumbent will provide analytic and technical guidance to support all aspects of the Statewide Maternal Health Innovation Program (SMHI), including:
The RS II will contribute to the analysis of statewide surveillance data, support the matching of Vital Statistics and hospital discharge data with Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) data, and provide support the evaluation of the innovative projects and provision of safe care for every birth (Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health). The incumbent will also work closely with the Senior Project Coordinator in the SMHI Unit within the Bureau of Perinatal, Reproductive, and Sexual Health (BPRASH) to ensure program data needs are met and to contribute toward the development of evaluation plans and ad hoc data analyses to support program needs as necessary. The incumbent will also provide data support for writing progress reports and program narratives, monitoring performance and evaluation measures for progress reports and presentations, and provide other data support as needed.
Finally, the incumbent may have additional responsibilities related to the Bureau and Division’s work related to research and analyses in the areas of maternal and infant morbidity/mortality, eliminating perinatal health disparities, and supporting maternal health services delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics, or a related field and three years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and two years of research experience; OR a doctorate in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or higher-level degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics, or another closely related field. Experience in maternal and child health and/or social epidemiology; experience working with large datasets; identification and surveillance of adverse health outcomes and health disparities. Experience developing reports, developing needs assessments, conducting epidemiology literature reviews, and summarizing scientific literature. Proficiency in the collection, management, linkage, and analysis of large administrative datasets. Experience using SAS. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.
