Department Overview
 

A Finance placement within Walton Oaks (near Walton-on-the-hill, Surrey) will take place in the Decision Support Finance Group (abbreviated to DS CoE).

This Finance team is accountable for undertaking financial management reporting and analysis in order to support Finance colleagues across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.  Key stakeholders will include Finance Analysts, Finance Managers / Senior Finance Managers and Finance Directors from a variety of countries.

Undergraduates will be accountable for, but not limited to, conducting the following key activities: Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting, Financial Reporting analytics, Presentation development and preparation, Data Validation, and Report consolidation and submission. 

What can I achieve and what will I be accountable for whilst completing a placement at Pfizer?

You will assist Finance leaders in their role of providing financial management and analysis services.  Activities will include:

  • Preparing and validating the accuracy of Financial Management Reports. This includes reports with high visibility to senior management such as Revenue and P&L Reporting
  • Involvement in Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting with preparation of variance/KPI reporting and system submission support.
  • Data collection – Gather data from internal Pfizer systems and external non-Pfizer systems and sources necessary as required.
  • Root Cause Research - Researching business related variances, identify variances as manual accounting error or legitimate business movements
  • Ensuring productive collaboration between the various sub teams within the DS CoE Finance Team.
  • Performing ad-hoc investigations and analytical reporting as required.
  • Working with a variety of technology – including various different Financial systems used by Pfizer, as well as new technologies such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Dashboarding Tools etc.
  • Involvement in team based projects within the DS CoE Finance Team.

The Decision Support Finance Group has been participating in the Undergraduate scheme since the team was formed in 2011, and is an excellent place to gain first hand experience in what a career in Finance could look like.  We have had several Undergraduates return to the department as Pfizer Colleagues upon completing their degrees, demonstrating a proven track record in providing the necessary skills and knowledge to start a successful career in Finance.

There will be development opportunities to work on cross functional projects with colleagues across our 4 main centres (Memphis, San Jose, Dalian and Walton Oaks). We have a dynamic Social Committee which will include Social events, Team Build events and Community volunteering days.

When can I start?

Formal Pfizer undergraduate placements will start on the 1st September 2025 and will run for 12 months. However, we will be asking our Finance Undergraduates to begin their role on the 14th July 2025 so that we can undertake a handover with our outgoing undergraduates.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Type of person we are looking for, in relation to ‘Skills’, ‘Knowledge’ and ‘Motivation’:

  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong Maths and English skills
  • Self-assurance to liaise with Pfizer personnel at all levels
  • Ability to generate creative and innovative ideas
  • Enthusiastic and pro-active approach
  • IT literacy (in particular, knowledge of Microsoft Excel is essential)
