Freese and Nichols is seeking an experienced BIM/CAD Designer to join our team in Raleigh, North Carolina. This leadership position focuses on assisting engineers and architects in developing BIM/CAD models for engineering designs. It entails handling complex design tasks independently, applying advanced techniques while adhering to industry standards. The role involves following detailed instructions for advanced concepts and includes leading and managing a team.

  • Understands the project requirements, scope of work, and deliverables. Provides Practice level input. 

  • Prepares detail and layout drawings and sketches of unusual, complex, or original designs requiring the application of theoretical and practical engineering knowledge. 

  • Performs discipline design tasks which regularly require the application of fundamental engineering concept with limited input and direction from the engineer or architect.   

  • May provide conceptual input to projects during the planning stages. 

  • Interfaces with other Practices, groups, clients, vendors, and project engineers to support project production. 

  • Develops and implements new processes as required to ensure consistent quality. 

  • Works at the Practice level to ensure control on project models are properly set up, referenced, and maintained. Engage in Continuous Improvement by contributing ideas to improve model set up, standards, templates, and processes. 

  • Provides leadership taking a wholistic view of the project and makes independent project level decisions that are trusted by the engineers. Works under broad assignments guided by project scopes, annual operating plans, and practice-level plans. Accomplishments are performed with minimal supervision. 

  • Provides direction, assistance, and mentoring to BIM/CAD Technicians and Designers. Ensures project deliverables across the Practice are professional and consistent with prevailing standards, templates, and processes. 

  • Recommend design changes for improvements of the project. Estimate and oversee BIM/CAD workload.

  • Produce concise well written materials and understand project scopes. Create and conduct presentations and training. 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • 12+ years of practice-level experience with a broad base in engineering design and technical engineering support

  • Expertise in computer operation and in BIM/CAD software.

  • Proven ability to learn, adapt, and problem solve to produce accurate and quality deliverables.

  • Able to overcome obstacles to help a project move along. In-depth knowledge of multiple technical products. 

  • Able to convert written and verbal information into drawings. Knowledge of company, industry, and technical vocabulary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BIM/CAD Associates Degree or Certification
