Company Overview:

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The Manufacturing team at Relativity Space is currently deep in manufacturing trades and process development for Terran R, our next generation, reusable rocket. This team has a wide variety of responsibilities—from determining the most efficient factory floor layout, to developing and implementing complex tooling and processes, and even interfacing with the vehicle engineering team to heavily influence the design of the rocket. Unique to Relativity, you will get to work across many teams to iterate and support development of the vehicle program.

About the Role:

This role is primarily focused on generating and maintaining engineering definition for our manufacturing team to build vehicle assemblies. Your responsibility is working hand in hand with vehicle design engineers on generating part processing definition in the form of engineering models, BOMs, and CAD drawings in Siemens NX and managing product lifecycle in Siemens TeamCenter. You will also design mechanical piece parts and assemblies to support development and perform revisions to existing 3D models and 2D drawings as needed. You will be the liaison between design engineering and manufacturing engineering, generating in-process definition to take our final vehicle design and translating into manufacturable states for our vehicle work centers. Explicit duties to include:

  • Develop process for manufacturing state definition generation, review, and implementation into the Terran R production system.
  • Use discretion and technical judgment to provide input for manufacturability of vehicle parts and assemblies.
  • Implement geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) into the Terran R vehicle design.
  • Design 3D mechanical models of parts and assemblies used on the vehicle.
  • Design manufacturing-state CAD geometry for items or assemblies that exist physically but do not currently exist in CAD and release them in PLM.
  • Configure (organize, structure, and indent) the BOM to align with the manufacturing build flow ensuring the pertinent engineering definition is provided at key manufacturing points.
  • Generate 2D drawings for parts and assemblies using drafting standards and application of GD&T in m-state form for the manufacturing team.
  • Prepare data for release through PLM system and ensure conformance to Relativity’s quality standards (i.e., ensure item groups, assigned materials, and traceability types are correct, for instance)
  • Make PLM coordinated revisions to existing 3D models and 2D drawings; generate engineering change orders to capture revision details and inform downstream customers of changes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including vehicle engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and enterprise applications systems, to standardize and optimize our systems.
  • Create project status reports to communicate progress and roadblocks.

About You:

  • 3+ years of experience with assembly modelling in Siemens NX or equivalent (Catia, SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
  • 3+ years of experience with reading and interpreting technical documents and/or drawings
  • 3+ years of experience geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • 3+ years of experience with structural design principles for assembly and manufacturing
  • Competence in Microsoft office tools (Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to be a self-starter and operate with minimal direction

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering highly preferred
  • Mastery of Siemens TeamCenter PLM or mastery of a similar PLM tool
  • GD&T Professional Certification, GDTP Y14.5 - ASME or familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9001
  • Experience with structures manufacturing engineering processes (CNC machining, forming, welding)
