Job Description:

Position Summary:

Career Level

This role is responsible to inspect, diagnose and perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repair of diesel semi-trucks and trailers. Ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures as well as legal regulations. May assist lesser experienced mechanics with basic preventative maintenance as necessary. 

Here’s what you’ll do: 

  • Responsible for semi-trucks and trailers preventative and corrective maintenance and repair in a safe, efficient, timely and cost-effective manner to include, but not limited to overhaul and repair of engines, transmissions, cooling systems, steering systems, air systems, trailer refrigeration system or any other system used on heavy duty tractor/trailer trucks.  
  • Perform routine inspection and diagnose failure of tractors/trailers and disassemble, repair and reassemble parts.  
  • Identify and employ proper procedure of troubleshooting to determine when parts need replacement and when repairs are necessary.  
  • Complete related maintenance documentation including work orders, test reports, parts inventory and order logs, etc.  
  • Prepare and/or complete DOT inspections and related paperwork/documentation accurately and timely. 
  • Apply technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as written diagrams, manufactures' manuals, etc.  
  • Mentor and train less experienced mechanics on company procedures and tractor/trailer repairs and maintenance.  
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure workspace is clean and organized.  
  • Responsible for the adherence of all safety and environmental policies and procedures.  
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulations and laws within assigned area (i.e., DOT, OSHA, EPA, etc.) to ensure company compliance.  
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. 
  • Ability to get 608 ceritfication, 609 ceritification required

Here’s what you’ll need: 

  • Commercial Driver's License A or B (strongly preferred) 
  • Proficiency in the use of mechanical tools required. Must have necessary mechanical tools to maintain and repair equipment.  
  • Three years diesel mechanic experience required. Technical school certification a plus. 
  • Must be able to listen to and visually inspect equipment in order to diagnose maintenance needs.  
  • Ability to read schematics.  
  • Must be able to weld and possess advanced knowledge of diesel mechanics equipment.  
  • Must perform assigned tasks accurately and completely.  
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal, to communicate and/or document maintenance needs and status of projects.  
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and DOT standards, regulations and requirements.  
  • Must be able to take direction from supervisor(s) and works well with others.  
  • Must work well under pressure, and is able to organize and prioritize work assignments, and meet established deadlines. 
  • Aide in training techs on shop policies and procedures. 
  • Must have necessary mechanic tools to maintain and repair machinery and equipment.  
  • Knowledge of welding practice and procedures with welding certifications or the ability obtain certifications.

While performing the duties of this position, employees are subject to a warehouse environment and may frequently be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity based on assignment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Employees must be able to work weekends, holidays, days and night hours, and overtime as necessary and as assigned, and must be able to work in the condition specified for 8-10 hours shift as assigned. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
