As a Senior Dry Etch Equipment Technology Development Engineer, you are an integral member of the Technology Development Engineering team at Micron driving our development of tomorrow's memory and storage technology.

The primary focus of this role is to develop cutting edge semiconductor processing hardware – both internally with process engineering and externally with vendors – to enable novel process technology.

Success is derived through partnership with the process development team and effective project management of vendor resources to achieve process technology and efficiency benchmarks. Equipment Development Engineers use creative experimental techniques and have access to a full suite of semiconductor analytics lab equipment and on-board plasma diagnostics to solve outstanding technical challenges.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Supervision: Work without considerable direction. Exert significant latitude in determining objectives of assignment.
  • Application: Frequently contribute to the development of new theories, concepts, and methods.  Act as an expert in the field and be recognized as such by your peers.
  • Project Scope: Projects are driven within the area and module.
  • Skills Level: Use extensive technical knowledge to guide strategic directions, interpret customer needs, and clearly communicate the needs to internal and external contacts.
  • Module Ownership:
    • Design, develop, and implement technical products, systems, or processes to improve product quality and/or FAB performance.
    • Implement changes to technologies and services to improve FAB metrics in scrap, cost, rework, cycle time, throughput, or yield.
    • Solve complex problems to help resolve equipment and/or parameter shifts.
    • Identify and evaluate interactions between equipment, modules and processes and resolve related issues.
  • Continual Improvements:
    • Research, gather and analyze information related to specific assignments within your technical field. Recommend process or equipment changes to improve FAB metrics.
    • Interpret results and conduct quantitative analyses.  Interpret results of new or modified equipment or processes.
  • Set Module Level Roadmap:
    • Define and lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects of importance to the organization such as managing area specific, technical project roadmaps.
    • Recognize opportunities and provide feedback to R&D personnel for technical innovation.
    • Mentor new engineers and pilot line engineers
    • Drive module level development and lead large projects of a technical nature.
    • Standardize methods and procedures across area, department and/or FABs.
  • Manufacturing Responsibility:
    • Understand manufacturing issues.
    • Interact on a regular basis with counterpart in manufacturing.
    • transfer owned process to manufacturing with good support and documentation.
    • Interact with manufacturing on CIP projects.
    • Participate and drive KEG activities.
    • Monitor, Adjust, and Follow Up as necessary.
    • Act as a go to person’ for module issues
    • Drive yield related issues in manufacturing
    • Communicate Short-term Constraints, Issues, Priorities, and Special Instructions
  • General Expectations:
    • Contribute to the fulfillment of group objectives.
    • Drive project with limited supervisory input
    • Develop, implement, and transfer processes.
    • Present reports and findings with appropriate conclusions and recommendation
    • Constantly self-evaluate approach and goals.
    • Take on a within group leadership and mentor role.
    • Engage in at least one to two projects focused on module level improvements with cross group interaction.
  • Impact:
    • Achieve end results for significant project without which there will be an inability to reach crucial organizational objectives, will have prolonged effect and will require significant resource investment.
  • Interaction:
    • Interact positively with the group, pilot line, vendors, integration, manufacturing, management, KEG and senior customers on matters requiring coordination across organizational boundaries.
  • Safety:
    • Identify and promptly report hazards.
    • Follow safety procedures and area work rules including proper PPE, lockout and chemical safety.
    • Operate and maintain equipment and tools within manufacturers and company guidelines
    • Use proper lifting techniques and work in an ergonomically correct manner.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. Degree with 7+ years of related industry experience, or MS. Degree with 5+ years of related industry experience. Degree should be in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related technical discipline
