Engineering and Program Management: This role is part of Enterprise Program Management (EPM), where we provide technical standards, tools, processes, training, and subject matter expertise for product engineering and manufacturing. EPM allows all Blue Origin business units to benefit from commonly used capabilities, hardware, and software and assists business units in identifying, selecting, and training engineers from both inside and outside the organization.

New Glenn: This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be a part of the analysis efforts for unique Thermal Protection System (TPS) and hot structures components.  You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects. First primarily focused on analysis, but also including significant contributions in design, testing and flight operations. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of specialists, you will be responsible for performing and overseeing structural analysis of hot structure on reusable launch vehicles made from Nickel alloys, Carbon/-Carbon or other Ceramic Matrix Composites.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • All aspects of structural analysis: thermal, structural and acoustic analysis (transient and static)
  • Configuration development and trade studies
  • Developing novel and efficient approaches to challenging analysis problems
  • Driving key aspects of material allowables testing
  • Detailed understanding of failure modes and design drivers for hot structures
  • Creating detailed analysis reports to support production drawing releases.
  • Supporting test development, performing post-test analysis
  • Collaborate with multiple disciplinary groups to meet requirements.
  • As a senior engineer, you will also coach, mentor, and technically assist other members of the team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree (M.S. preferred) in engineering and 10+ years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures, or automotive.
  • Experience with hot structure analysis and sizing on recently developed vehicles
  • Experience analyzing hot structures, both metallic and composite.
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following finite element software packages: Ansys, NASTRAN, Optistruct, Abaqus, LS-Dyna,Hyperworks, including thermal solutions
  • Detailed understanding of failure modes and analysis methods for hot structures
  • Experience trading options including Nickel alloys, Carbon/Carbon, refractory metals, and thermal protection materials
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of material selection, compatibility and manufacturing techniques
  • MS Degree in engineering with 10+ years of proved track record with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures
  • High temperature structural testing experience
  • Experience or familiarity with aerothermal and vibroacoustic analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with bonded and bolted joint design, mechanics, and relevant analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with structural layout, analysis, testing, and qualification methods


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $136,467.00-$191,053.80

Other site ranges may differ
