Director, Operational Risk

The Director, Operational Risk is responsible for operational risk independent oversight, aggregation and reporting as well as oversight of the strategic development, implementation, and effective execution of the Operational Risk program, including the identification, management, governance and reporting of Operational Risks within the organization.

Key program elements cover: internal loss, external loss, risk assessment, business impact assessments, KRIs, scenario analysis / stress testing, training, awareness, and communication, issues and remediation planning, tracking, MIS and reporting, testing, compliance, and monitoring.

  • Oversees one or multiple teams of risk professionals to ensure collaboration with business units, cross-functional teams, and the First Line of Defense.

  • Oversees the preparation of governance reports and communications to Senior Management and stakeholders on the operational risk profile.

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization, including business units, risk management teams, and senior leadership through adequate management routines, reports, oversight and governance to ensure that accountabilities are met.

  • Participates in forums, leads efforts, conversations and regular reporting to senior management. Contributes to key stakeholder reporting, escalation and communication to Risk Governance Forums.

  • Ensures compliance to government regulations, policies & procedures.

  • Manages policy, standard definition and monitoring of policy, standard implementation, ensuring harmonization and consistency of risk policies.

  • Monitors and manages risk/exposure and adherence with the company's policies.

  • Governs and supports the maintenance of the relevant Policies, Standards, Guidelines and Frameworks related to Operational Risk.

  • Recruits, develops, and manages talent to create within the organization a culture of leadership, performance, and accountability.

  • Collaborates with risk, compliance, and internal audit teams to ensure consistent operational risk reporting and provide data-driven insights to risk committees and senior management.

  • Evaluates the accuracy and effectiveness of risk reporting and supporting data, along with program documentation and retention.

  • Drives reporting, governance and policy related projects/initiatives for operational risk

  • Helps drive culture of risk awareness.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience: Business, Finance, Management, or equivalent field. Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Management, or equivalent field preferred.

  • Work Experience: 12+ Years Risk Management/Risk MIS/ Financial services environment.  

  • Strong risk management principles, methodologies and tools, governance principles and activity preferably in a financial services technology environment.

  • Advanced knowledge of risk management best practices and how to implement them.

  • Advanced risk, process, and control validation and/or assessment skills.

  • Ability to direct, train and guide peers, subordinates, and management.

  • Ability to handle conflict resolution with other groups to ensure appropriate accounting guidance is followed.

  • Ability to adjust to new developments/changing circumstances.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with multiple levels of the organizational structure, including senior level management.

  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to multi-task and adapt/adjust to multiple demands and competing priorities.

  • Ability to maintain and report on confidential information in an appropriate manner.

  • Ability to convey a sense of urgency and drive issues/projects to closure.

  • Ability to effectively interact with the market, executive management, and vendors.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and project management skills.

The base pay range for this position is posted below and represents the annualized salary range. For hourly positions (non-exempt), the annual range is based on a 40-hour work week. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.

Base Pay Range

Minimum:

$120,000.00 USD

Maximum:

$215,000.00 USD
