Job Description Summary:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in medical nutrition therapy and/or translational nutrition science, serve as a research advisor to students, and contribute to department(s) research activities.

Tenure track appointments are full-time with an initial probationary period of seven years. Criteria for promotion includes significant achievements in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. The award of tenure is based on potential for sustained contributions, performing beyond expected duties, and demonstrating leadership and innovation in activities that enhance the reputation of the University.
The Clinical Scholar Track is for full-time faculty members who are heavily involved in clinical service, education, and related scholarship. This track has two career paths: Clinician-Educator concentrating on teaching and Clinician-Investigator for concentrating on research/scholarship. Significant contributions in professional and academic service are required for both paths.

Job Description:

Job Duties Outlined

  • Teach graduate level coursework related to medical nutritional therapy and/or translational nutrition science.

  • Demonstrate evidence (or potential) of a successful program of research and extramural grant funding in diet and neurological conditions. Attain funding as a Principal Investigator.

  • Serve as a research advisor and mentor for students enrolled in Master of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition, PhD in Medical Nutrition Science, and Doctor of Clinical Nutrition programs.

  • Share scholarly work in appropriate settings. Present research at local, state, and national meetings. Mentor students as they present at local, national, and international meetings.

  • Provide clinical practice in neurology clinic(s). 

  • Contribute to department(s) missions and agendas and foster cooperative, collegial environment.

  • Participate in providing service to the university, community, state, and nation. Serve on and chair department, school, and campus wide committees. Review manuscripts and grant applications for local and national agencies.

  • Potential for collaborative and inter-professional work with other KU Medical Center faculty. Collaborate with faculty in the Schools of Medicine and Health Professions and across the KUMC campus as well as at other institutions and with other disciplines.

Required Qualifications

Education: Doctorate in nutrition, exercise, or behavioral science or other appropriate field related to nutrition.

Certifications/Licenses: Registered Dietician

Work Experience:

  • Experience working with individuals with neurological disorders.

  • Established (or potential) focused research program and extramural funding in diet and neurological conditions.

  • Previous post-doctoral training and experience conducting research.  

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Established record of publication and funding.

  • Prior experience with training and mentoring students.

Skills

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
