As an Inclusive Designer at Yahoo, you’ll improve the design and development of our products by championing an inclusive and accessible product strategy that considers every user. 

You’ll help ensure corporate compliance with accessibility requirements, and partner closely with Product Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, DE&I, and a variety of other stakeholders throughout the company. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both digital accessibility and any of the UX Design disciplines (e.g. Interaction Design, Content Design, UX Research, etc). 

In a given day you might find yourself:

  • Reviewing product designs for inclusive design best practices and collaborating directly with designers to identify and implement improvements

  • Annotating a design document with accessibility requirements

  • Testing a pre-production build to ensure accessibility compliance 

  • Meeting with a developer to explain what’s needed to solve an accessibility issue

  • Creating an accessibility status report to share out with a product team

  • Writing a corporate accessibility plan or statement required by a new or existing law

  • Meeting with other Inclusive Designers to review individual projects and give feedback

  • Attending a design sprint and helping to ideate on an upcoming product 

High-level responsibilities 

  • Serve as a resource to help embed principles of diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility into the product development process.

  • Work with key stakeholders to support adjacent disciplines like marketing, events, and operations, where appropriate. 

  • Help ensure product and corporate compliance with accessibility requirements and policies

  • Monitor and manage accessibility scans, testing, and bugs for Yahoo products already in production. Work with outside vendors on this when necessary.

  • Tackle non-project related work that comes up such as creating and maintaining company-specific standards, requests for engagement from internal teams, etc.

Requirements:

  • 3-5+ years professional experience in the accessibility and inclusive design space

  • Strong knowledge of WCAG and other accessibility guidelines and standards

  • Working knowledge of manual and automated accessibility review methodologies, using keyboard-only, screen readers, or tools such as Axe or WAVE

  • Solid background partnering with product designers at all stages of the product development process

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and deliver on time

  • Strong understanding of usability principles and accessibility heuristics

  • CPACC or similar certification (nice to have)

The compensation for this position ranges from $96,000.00 - $200,000.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
