Department Overview

ASTRO Infrastructure Product Management is responsible for developing and maintaining a vision and roadmap for MSI’s ASTRO P25 two-way radio communications solution that supports the Company’s strategic goals. ASTRO P25 is a complex, critical communications system that includes core call processing, RF sites, IP Transport, dispatch consoles, applications, system management and services.
The ASTRO Infrastructure Product Management team has ownership of the definition, planning, launch, maintenance and lifecycle of infrastructure products and solutions.

This team has a strong culture of collaboration and a built in support structure with very experienced Product Managers managing teams. These managers will support, grow and assist with learning of new technologies and concepts within the organization.


Job Description

The ASTRO Infrastructure Product Manager works closely with cross-functional teams including Product Planning, Engineering, Supply chain, Marketing, Service and Sales to plan and execute the product launch and the maintenance through the life of their product. The Product Manager will validate and develop ideas that extend new services or offerings to our customers based on industry experience and contact with customers and stakeholders.  Product managers must plan for what development teams will deliver and when they will deliver it and manage dependencies in and across releases and support teams. The Product Manager must possess a blend of business and technical skills, and must enjoy spending time in the market to understand the customers’ needs. 

The candidate for this role needs to be an excellent communicator with strong collaboration skills, able to work effectively across teams.  The candidate must be willing to learn new things and be self driven to explore and grow as a Product Manager.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Defining the ‘why’, ‘what,’ and ‘when’ of the product that the development team will build. 

  • Understanding of the software development life cycle and technical acumen to communicate effectively with development engineering and our technical end users. 

  • Creating business cases to support the development of new features or solutions

  • Developing and validating market problems based on industry experience and contact with customers and stakeholders.

  • Create and manage product vision, execution strategy and feature backlog and roadmap

  • Complete ownership of a product portfolio from end-to-end.  

  • Define financial goals, including product cost and cost to deliver services

  • Maintain strong financial governance of their product portfolio

  • Drive complex strategic projects to completion and successfully communicate the results to key stakeholders.

  • Manage risks and drive resolution of issues that affect product quality or release schedule.

  • Collecting, curating, and promoting the most relevant ideas into initiatives.  Prioritizing initiatives to achieve key objectives for the product line and business.

  • Continuously gather VOS (voice of sales) and VOC (voice of customer) and seamlessly integrate into the product planning and development processes.

  • Support the organizations that help bring the product to market and work directly with customers including procurement, marketing, sales, training and support services

  • Closely monitor and drive continuity of supply for third-party content, working with Procurement and Development Engineering

  • Enable Sales and Field Engineering with intuitive tools for selling and ordering products

  • Act as the customer advocate to deliver a product to solve their problems


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required (Business, Finance or Engineering desired)

  • 3+ years experience in Product Management, Engineering or Marketing 

  • Experience within Public Safety markets desired

  • Knowledge of ASTRO or Project 25 (P25) desired.

  • Knowledge of costing and financial analysis desired
