What You Will Do:

  • Provide curation support by reviewing MEDLINE citations that have been machine-indexed with Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) in the PubMed Data Management system. Curation support could include, but is not limited to:
  • the indexing of MEDLINE citations as outlined by the MEDLINE citation curation policy
  • Communicating the accuracy of indexed citations and annotating citations using a controlled vocabulary
  • Querying and organizing citation information into structured formats using unique traceable identifiers
  • Adjust the indexing as needed in accordance with established MEDLINE citation curation policy.
  • Perform other curation support duties as assigned.

What You Will Need:
  • ​Minimum of 4 years of experience
  • B.S. or higher in Biology, Biomedical Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience that provides knowledge of biomedical vocabulary, principles, and facts sufficient for: 
  • Understanding and analyzing scientific literature on diverse biomedical topics such as anatomy, physiology, psychology, genetics, biochemistry, and healthcare practices 
  • Comprehending biomedical concepts (even unfamiliar ones) 
  • Understanding biomedical vocabulary, its applications, and relationships between terms 
  • Experience annotating bibliographic citations to the scientific literature with appropriate terms from a controlled vocabulary:
  • Familiarity with biomedical terminology
  • Knowledge of controlled vocabularies
  • Knowledge of the principles of subject indexing

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • M.S. degree in a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Advanced knowledge of biomedical databases (especially PubMed/MEDLINE) and database search skills, including: 
  • Familiarity with typical practices in biomedical publishing, types of scientific publications, components of citations, and basic bibliographic data 
  • Proficiency in constructing complex queries (preferably in PubMed/MEDLINE) using advanced search features, including Boolean operators, search fields, and search filters (preferably using MeSH) 
  • Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Jira 
  • Ability to obtain an NIH badge. 

The annual salary range for this position is $100,200.00-$150,200.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
