The Opportunity

Responsible for leadership of the capital planning and strategy team, implementing and supporting capital management initiatives to support the capital position of the company and maintaining the ICAAP and the Capital management Framework.

The Senior Manager Capital Planning and Strategy role reports to the Chief Actuary and works closely with the a range of stakeholders across the business.

The actuarial function is an integral part of the financial management of AIA Australia through its pricing, capital management, risk management and financial reporting activities. The financial analysis and reporting performed by the function forms an essential part of the management information developed for the shareholder (AIA Group Office in Hong Kong), the Board and senior management.

To do this successfully you will:

  • Drive the identification and implementation of strategies to optimise capital across the company. This includes the assessment of capital impacts relating to strategic initiatives, pricing and reinsurance changes.
  • Prepare ICAAP reporting, capital forecasting, annual budget and strategic planning.
  • Provide technical input and review of capital methodologies and assumptions, and implications of changes in regulatory standards.
  • Model projections of the AIA Health financials, including  the impact on AIA Australia’s capital position.
  • Provide leadership and professional guidance to the actuarial staff, through contributions to the Actuarial Professional Family, including ensuring the continual development as a high performing professional team.

Successful applications will demonstrate:

  • Qualified actuary preferably with 10 years post qualification practical actuarial experience in a business environment.
  • Strong experience in capital management.
  • Deep knowledge of the Australian life insurance, life prudential standards, tax and legislation, in particular pertaining the capital is preferred. Alternatively, In depth risk based capital standards experience from offshore may able also be considered.
  • Detailed knowledge of regulatory and professional actuarial standards.
  • Detailed knowledge of actuarial processes such as valuation, pricing and experience investigations.
  • Considerable experience in successfully developing, mentoring and managing a team of people.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Very strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
