Scope and Responsibilities:

Market coverage and understanding:

  • Accurate mapping and knowledge of UK Institutional landscape. This would ideally include DB and DC Pension funds, LGPS pools/local LGPS, insurance companies, endowments/foundations as well as a network of Single and Multi-Family offices.

  • The candidate would understand the requirements of institutional clients in terms of product design, approval process and implementation within their portfolios

  • The candidate would have experience selling traditional GP/LP closed end fund structures across Private Credit/ PE/Real Estate.

  • The candidate would understand local regulatory investment vehicles such as OEIC’c, SICAV’s and potentially ELTIF/LTAF structures.

  • Ability to engage at different levels of the target organisations including internal manager selection teams through to CIO’s

  • This role would ideally suit a candidate who is ready to take the step up to an external facing sales and business development role perhaps having been an internal sales support/junior relationship manager. Whilst providing support on some established relationships this role will provide the opportunity to build and develop their own relationships over time targeting some mid sized institutional LP’s and sourcing new family office clients.

Product knowledge:

  • Sound understanding of the Private/public Credit, PE and RE landscape. Ability to communicate the investment strategies to ensure interest and progress to the next steps of meeting with investment teams for deeper dives.

  • Understanding of the main asset allocation themes affecting the institutional marketplace within the UK

  • Ability to explain and identify where Oaktree’s products may fit and resonate within prospects portfolios

  • Good understanding of ESG trends and best practices shaping the industry

  • Some level of understanding of private markets/alternative funds where appropriate including strategies and fund structures

Sales strategy/activity:

  • Development and implementation of sales strategy to target audience to position Oaktree suite of funds

  • Ability to source and engage with new prospective clients not currently covered by the senior team members

  • Ability to work closely with relevant product specialists and investment personal to execute sales strategy

  • Structured interaction with target accounts including regular strategy updates/ad hoc pitch/update meetings and ability to plan roadshows with relevant investment teams

  • Ability to represent Oaktree at conferences and client events

  • Maintenance of internal CRM system (Salesforce), maintaining meeting notes and accurate up to date sales pipelines

Manage internal firm relationships:

  • Ability to work with investments, legal, operations, client services, product specialists and form strong inter firm relationships

Experience Required

  • 6-10 years of relevant experience VP level in top tier Asset Manager/Private bank

  • Proven track record in knowing the UK institutional market and successfully selling and servicing it

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word as well as marketing databases

Education

  • Undergraduate or equivalent degree

  • Postgraduate/professional qualification preferable but not required (MBA/CFA/CAIA etc.)

  • Investment Management certificate (IMC) required
