Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Senior Staff Chief Engineer to join the Air Vehicle Engineering Team.  This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The selected candidate will fill the role of the Aerospace Vehicle Deputy Chief Engineer for the Office of the Chief Engineer in our SDS Division.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide technical leadership in Design and Development of the Aerospace Vehicle Equipment (AVE)
  • Drive technical execution in support of major program events
  • Collaboration within the Office of the Chief Engineer to deliver exceptional customer value
  • Focusing horizontally on resolving high-level Systems challenges
  • Driving technical execution with an emphasis on AVE
  • Ensuring execution of overall technical plan within the Integrated Master Schedule
  • Supporting strategic SDS Division initiatives on tools, processes, and cross-segment technical reviews
  • Driving technical rigor into technical interchange meetings with Sentinel partners
  • Utilizing Model-Based Engineering to deliver a highly sustainable Weapon System
  • Advising program technical leadership on program, schedule, and technical matters

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Relocation assistance may be available.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 14 years of experience; 12 years with Master’s degree; 9 years with PhD
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience formally leading engineering teams/and or organizations to achieve a common goal
  • Must have US Citizenship with an Active DOD Secret clearance granted or re-investigated within last 6 years
  • Must have the ability to obtain, and maintain access to Special Access Programs (SAP) as a condition of continued employment.
  • Knowledge of Vehicle Product development designs including structures; guidance, navigation, software, propulsion, electronics/payloads, communications, materials, subsystems, and Integration and Testing
  • Knowledge in the development of high-fidelity aerospace vehicle control and dynamics, vehicle structural dynamics, and accuracy simulations and performance assessment (including propulsion, steering and control, and accuracy)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Ability to collaborate and achieve consensus when dealing with groups from diverse organizations and backgrounds
  • Experience integrating multiple engineering specialties and stakeholders across multiple Integrated Product Teams and Suppliers
  • Experience leading design, production, and integration of complex systems
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
  • Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to make difficult technical decisions with good judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multifunctional teams and drive to results
  • Design Engineering/Computer-aided Design (CAD) experience and engineering releases utilizing Product Lifecycle Management tools
  • Prior experience interfacing with prime contractor site leads and USAF leadership personnel
  • Be able and willing to travel up to 25% as a part of the role.

These Qualifications Would Be Nice to Have:

  • Expert knowledge of Vehicle Product development designs including structures; guidance, navigation, software, propulsion, electronics/payloads, communications, materials, subsystems, and Integration and Testing
  • Expert knowledge in the development of high-fidelity aerospace vehicle control and dynamics, vehicle structural dynamics, and accuracy simulations and performance assessment (including propulsion, steering and control, and accuracy)
  • Subject Matter Expert {SME) experience and familiarity with high accuracy inertial measurement system modeling and performance; including calibration and alignment principles, Kalman filtering, and instrument error modeling
  • SME experience in subsystem and vehicle model maturation and validation using test and proven analytical methods
  • SME experience and knowledge in principles of MBSE (Model Based System Engineering)
  • 5+ years of experience with technical / vehicle engineering development leadership for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) or related missile-based activities
  • Previous experience working on large DoD development and deployment programs
  • Experience with industry program management processes including CCB, ERB, EVMS, and Risk Management
  • Expert knowledge of strategic level nuclear hardened designs
  • Expert knowledge of strategic level nuclear surety/safety requirements and compliant designs
  • Expert knowledge of cyber related design compliance to requirements
  • Expert understanding of verification and validation principles of MS&A work products
  • Expert knowledge of ICBM/ strategic missile designs including, flight testing, performance analysis, solid rocket motor propulsion-based stages, missile guidance, navigation, and control of strategic missile systems (including software); liquid propulsion-based post boost systems; and payload reentry systems-including nuclear warhead equipped re-entry vehicles (RV) (including non-nuclear capable RV test vehicles) and associated countermeasures
  • Active Top Secret and special access clearance (SAP)
  • Previous experience working on large DoD development and deployment programs
  • Experience with industry program management processes including CCB, ERB, EVMS, and Risk Management

Salary Range: $158,200.00 - $237,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
