We are hiring for our Full-Time Direct Support Professional position at our Church Avenue location.  

 

The ideal candidate for the Direct Support Professional (DSP) position will have an enthusiasm for helping people and be comfortable working with people who require support in activities of daily living such as assisting with showering, toileting, and grooming. Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work directly with people needing assistance in their home, work, and daily life in varying capacities. The DSP’s goal is to help people live their best lives, in a way that they want, by assisting them in the areas/activities that promote independence.

Schedule:   

  • Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:00 pm

  • Maintaining Professionalism and Punctuality

  • Ensuring maintenance upkeep and safety based on facility/ program structure  

  • Completing mandatory trainings based on the program and position (AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, Defensive Driving, etc.), as well as applying skills  

  • Meeting and demonstrating OPWDD Core Competencies  

  • Ensuring health, wellness and safety  

  • Ensuring appropriate supervision of the people we support  

  • Understanding when to contact an administrator for support  

  • Demonstrating a willingness to assist people with ADLs  

  • Transporting and escorting people we support on recreational activities, medical appointment, home visits, etc.  

  • Building Positive relationships  

  • Using person first language  

  • Maintaining a therapeutic environment through a variety of methods: Personal Outcome Measures, Person Centered Thinking, Informed Decision Making  

  • Ensuring person centered plans are implemented  

  • Completing documentation to ensure compliance and billing  

  • Using foundational Teaching skills (EMOE, Task analysis, essential skills, supports and modifications, etc.  

  • Assisting people with making purchases, as well as safeguard personal allowance funds and any additional funds provided  

  • Managing crisis

  • Demonstrate a high level of communication skill through articulate written and verbal modes, being able to effectively relay detailed, important information to all stakeholders.

  • Completing mandatory trainings based on the program and position (AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, Defensive Driving, etc.), as well as applying the learned skills.

  • Ensuring appropriate supervision of the people we support, and program – and understanding when to contact an administrator for support.

  • Escorting people on recreational activities, volunteer sites, and various other community events and/or functions.

  • At times assisting people with making purchases, as well as safeguard personal allowance funds and any additional funds.

  • Taking on additional tasks outside of basic DSP work/completing job related tasks as needed.

  • Strong writing skills required; an ability to analyze, interpret, and summarize data through detailed progress notes.

Education and Experience:  

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred

  • Work or life experience in the I/DD field preferred

  • Valid NY State Driver's License required

  • Tuberculosis test is mandatory for most positions.

Compensation:

  • $16.50/hour to $16.50/hour
