Job Description Summary

Applies broad multi-disciplinary engineering (mechanical and electrical/electronic) knowledge, skills, and methods as well as computer/software systems to design and engineer the overall systems infrastructure including engineering, implementation and integration, and technical services and support. Designs, implements, installs, maintains, and administers infrastructures including hardware, software, and various configurations. Monitors overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune them appropriately. Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures. Works with others to establish and improve processes and procedures.

As a EGSE Software Development Engineering supporting the Integration and Test team, you will be supporting our mission to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, test, verify and deploy safety-critical software systems, ensuring the success of the overall Ground Data System (hardware/software) supporting space flight operations.
  • Support Flight and Ground Software Engineers to build/test EGSE, verifying firmware & SW design requirements
  • Write EGSE Rack Level Software & Firmware using drivers in C++ with application program interfaces
  • Develop serial communication software interfaces between EGSE RS-422, RS-485 hardware and vehicle flight avionics
  • Troubleshoot issues and anomalies that arise during testing
  • Reduce, analyze, and archive test data to support verification tasks
  • Perform root cause, system hazard analysis and failure investigations
  • Find opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings
  • Develop, Test & Commission Software Scripts interfacing EGSE Hardware and Ground Software to run in conjunction with Vehicle I&T Procedures.
  • Collaborate with I&T Engineers, generating and maintaining test requirements and verification matrices
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers representing space vehicle systems, mission-control infrastructure, operations fields, and customers to define software requirements, architectures, and designs.
  • Support EGSE SW and Ground Software maintenance, upgrades, and functionality improvements
  • Participate in test readiness review, pre and post test briefings, and post test reviews.
  • Write & maintain SW documentation, and manage procedural redlines/updates during test campaigns
  • Follow software development processes that meet Blue Origin and customer-required standards to ensure software safety and reliability.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • B.S. or higher degree in Software or Engineering related field.
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Proven software development in Modern C++, Python, or Rust.
  • Experience in full lifecycle software engineering. Including: system design; architecting requirements gathering; software implementation and verification, system integration, and release.
  • Confirmed skills in software build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, and deployment.
  • Familiarity with Linux environment and basic Unix system administration activities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired: 

  • Experience with writing Software Requirements
  • Familiarity with messaging brokers (MQTT, ActiveMQ, etc)
  • Experience with Serial Communication protocols (RS-422, RS-485)
  • Experience developing software to establish Receive/Transmit (Rx/Tx) ports in Host machine
  • Experience with Software Performance Testing with a focus on Latency
  • Experience with Amazon web services (AWS)
  • Experience with complex electronics hardware and software systems
  • Compliance experience with NPR 7150.2.
  • Experience with fault-tolerant software design, human error assessment, and human error prevention and fault tolerance.
  • Experience with spacecraft subsystems and associated software.


 

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $129,690.00-$181,566.00;WA applicants is $141,480.00-$198,072.00
