Job Description

The Project

ACCIONA has been selected to deliver Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2, Sydney’s third harbour crossing. The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.

Project scope includes:

  • Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each direction
  • Civil, Mechanical and Electrical fitout of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnels
  • Surface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah Freeway

In line with the above, ACCIONA is now looking for a Project Engineer - Structures to join the Western Harbour Tunnel Project. The Project Engineer will lead the delivery of structural components for the Southern mined tunnel and TBM stage of the project.

Scope:

  • Overseeing the construction of over 1.4km of 4.5m high precast panels for longitudinal egress passages.
  • Managing the construction of three out of five substations, each averaging 800m2 in size each.
  • Delivering the construction of three ventilation facilities, & numerous structural steel erections totally nearly 1500T of structural steelwork.
  • Guiding the construction of 45 emergency access and evacuation facilities, encompassing pedestrian and vehicular cross and long passages.
  • Orchestrating the construction of two plenum bridges and the project's only low point sump, with an exciting chance to construct single-sided FRP scope.

Specific Tasks Include

  • Day-to-day management of project construction activities.
  • Monitoring and reporting the performance of the workforce and subcontractors on site to ensure technical, program, quality, environmental, industrial relations, safety, and commercial obligations are achieved and maintained.
  • Attending design reviews and providing advice relating to constructability, temporary works designs, safety, and site access and associated issues.
  • Development, monitoring, and control of achievable project schedule.
  • Planning, managing, and implementing the site establishment activities necessary to ensure all site-specific and contract requirements are met in terms of location, fencing, signage, environmental, logistics, and traffic conditions.
  • Identification, analysis, and mitigation of potential risk events including establishment of risk register and initiation of corrective action when required.
  • Managing changes to scope, deliverables, schedule, and budget.
  • Analyzing variance, trends, risks, and opportunities, key business drivers, and sensitivities, highlighting significant operational performance issues to management.
  • Ensuring environmental considerations are integral to decision-making for all construction activities.

Required Skills and Competencies

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role (tunnel structures experience).
  • Tunnel, Substation, and/or Station boxes fit-out experience.
  • Well-developed leadership and management skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • ·High attention to detail.
