The ICM CEP & Europe Head & Credit Product Strategy Group Head role is Managing Director level role and must be located in the European Union and employed by CEP.  The role requires subject matter expertise of wholesale credit and a broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories, controls, quality assurance, and practices relevant to wholesale lending well as practical experience of multiple business cycles.  Requires thorough understanding of strategic direction of the region and CEP entity within Citi’s broader strategic objectives, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in wholesale lending and credit risk management.

The role requires close liaison with various other business areas and functions (including wider ICM teams, first and second line teams, Business Managers, Control teams, Finance, Compliance as well as partner areas such as Operations and Technology) to ensure timely escalation and remediation of issues.  As a member of the established ICM EMEA Operating Committee, this role contributes to the leadership group managing ICM across key clusters and all ICM business lines.

Responsibilities:

  • Credit Risk Oversight: The ICM CEP & Europe Head & Credit Product Strategy Group Head will have primary responsibility for first line of defence oversight of the Wholesale Credit Risk (WCR) within CEP and other legal entities within Europe, including the oversight of the risk appetite and broader health of the WCR portfolio and on-going monitoring of emerging risks.  Working in partnership with the Europe and CEP Independent Risk Management teams.
  • Europe and CEP Leadership:
    • Accountable owner of ICM’s activities within and on behalf of Europe and its legal entities, with an effective delegation/support framework as required (via the EMEA ICM Head where practical)
    • Responsible for ICM to take very active role in the execution of the wholesale lending process for CEP. Ensures that CEP meets the European Regulatory framework, in coordination and leveraging as much as possible the concepts and processes developed for Citi as a whole
    • Coordinates all the ICM pillars to ensure a sound delivery for CEP
  • Governance: The ICM CEP & Europe Head & Credit Product Strategy Group Head will attend key CEP governance forums, including Board as appropriate, and escalate through LE governance forums (eg, CEP ExCo, RMC, BRCC, Europe Leadership group), operating as a peer to other product and function representatives.
  • Influence & Support: The ICM CEP & Europe Head & Credit Product Strategy Group Head is required to:
    • Influence key stakeholders on relevant Europe and LE activities and compex regulatory projects within the ICM organization and the Legal Entity.
    • Lead in the implementation of new Regulations, Dear CEO letters, SREP etc.
    • Active engagement and participation on ESG, Transformation, Regulatory Reporting, Europe Target Operating Model activities and other Europe and legal entity priorities
    • Support lines of business (presenting the portfolio reviews and results of risk appetite monitoring) and being the lead contact for IA and FCR requests.
    • Engagement with European regulators on ICM related requests and initiatives  (including  Inspections and ad hoc requests)
  • Credit Product Strategy: directs, designs and implements initiatives for CEP and/or more broadly across wholesale lending (as applicable) particularly as these apply to:
    • Process and Policy improvements to drive efficiencies and excellence in client execution
    • Directing technology requirements to compel stronger and more reliable client outcomes and data improvements
    • Owning or contributing to Regulatory Remediations and Internal Issues closures with a focus on sustainable and efficient solutions that best serve clients while sustaining safety and soundness
  • Management oversight of the ICM team in Europe.
  • Outsourcing: Management of ICM outsourcing framework leveraging group services in the entity, ensuring ICM group-level teams are engaged as required on local regulatory and other requirements.
  • Active engagement with the Europe and CEP Management team in achieving their goals & initiatives when required to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced C16 level with extensive management experience
  • Credit qualified to Senior Credit Officer level
  • Experience of establishing and leading functions within large organizations
  • Experience in managing teams both directly and matrix
  • Excellent problem solving skills- ability to see the big picture with high attention to critical details
  • Ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision
  • Can exercise independence of judgment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others and work collaboratively with people at all levels of the organization and across different geographic locations
  • A proactive and “no surprises” approach in communicating issues
  • Range of experience demonstrating flexibility in skillset and approach
  • Experience with Citi or Wholesale Credit Risk is a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor's/University degree

Regulatory Categorisations:

  • This role could be a Control Function One role and Material Risk Taker under Central Bank of Ireland regulations and may responsible for delegated activities under the CBI Senior Executive Accountability Regime
