At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to Earth’s orbit and beyond. Engineered with a reusable first stage and a seven-meter payload fairing, New Glenn is building the road to space.

As part of a small team, you’ll work to generate and communicate thermal solutions to the electro-mechanical avionics enclosures to support the development of New Glenn space vehicles and test/launch facilities. Proficiency in thermal analysis, to include physics-based hand calculations and finite element methods, is needed. Experience with simulation, mathematical modeling, data analysis, and technical writing and presentation is preferred. Candidates must have a willingness to take ownership of unfamiliar and sophisticated problems, communicate optimally, and deliver technically excellent results in an ambitious and multifaceted environment.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement avionics enclosure thermal solutions.
  • Develop and validate thermal Finite Element Models, and correlate with thermal tests.
  • Document and communicate thermal solutions and test results to internal and commercial customers.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, and Vehicle teams to ensure all inputs are captured and results are interpreted and implemented accurately by teams.
  • Research and define optimal thermal solutions for given environment.
  • Develop mathematical models and simulations for thermal analysis.
  • Manage resource-intensive computing and large datasets; post-process engineering application data.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Mechanical, or other relevant subject area
  • Passion for aerospace thermal analysis
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Finite Element Modeling experience
  • ICEPAK, Electronics Desktop, and MATLAB proficiency
  • Ability to solve a variety of thermal related problems using physics-based analytical methods (hand calculations, in-house tools, and 3rd party commercial analytical tools)
  • Ability to process and present data for engineering applications.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • Master of Science in Aerospace, Mechanical, or other relevant subject area
  • Spacecraft and launch vehicle thermal design and analysis experience
  • Spacecraft and launch vehicle thermal test suite experience
  • Experience with printed circuit card thermal modeling
  • Experience importing and exporting electro-mechanical models
  • Experience with instrumentation for ground and flight tests
  • Experience with high performance computing, management of large sets of data.
