Job Description Summary:
This position performs a variety of functions in relation to Laboratory testing, functions, and needs. Utilizes diverse technologies while ensuring accurate and timely test results. Coordinates day-to-day operations of assigned laboratory department.
Qualifications:
- Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related science (i.e. Biology, Microbiology, etc.) and Montana State Clinical Laboratory Technician license required.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ working experience in a clinical lab setting preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
- Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.
Job Specific Duties:
- As applicable to assigned area(s): Exhibits technical expertise and hands-on participation, coordinates test menus, validations, linearity’s, calibrations, QC, etc. Performs and monitors quality control procedures, addresses quality control issues and takes remedial actions. Assists leadership in coordination, assignment, and documentation Proficiency Testing to ensure quality and regulatory standards are met.
- Exhibits skills related to day-to-day operations of assigned area(s). Serves as lead troubleshooter and recommends necessary changes when issues arise and escalates to leadership accordingly.
- Responsible for the ordering of supplies for assigned area(s) as applicable.
- Proactively communicates changes, process improvements, troubleshooting, etc. with leadership and department staff. Maintains professionalism with staff and contributes to a positive work culture.
- Works in collaboration with leadership to provide and coordinate training and orientation of new staff and/or students. Coordinates training for inpatient and outpatient clinics as needed and as applicable to assigned area(s).
- As applicable to assigned area(s): Evaluates specimen and/or report integrity, identification and instrumentation performance. Provides input to leadership regarding changes and/or improvements in lab policies and procedures. Performs daily tasks in a timely manner and stays current with all procedures.
- Assists leadership in coordinating, performing, and maintaining accreditation related tasks and documents, such as competencies and proficiency testing as applicable to assigned area(s).
- Assists with Quality Control (QC) and Quality Management Performance Improvement activities to ensure accurate and timely reporting of results as applicable to assigned area(s).
- As applicable:
- Calls and documents Critical Values according to Lab policy.
- Maintains test tables, dictionaries, fee schedules, and computer upgrades in a timely manner.
- Tests, implements, and ensures software interface accuracy.
- Stays current with industry standards and changes.
- Documents and maintains QC utilizing systems and software to provide statistics to track performance. Oversees MIDAS event reporting and trending. Maintains CAP Quality Management Indicator reports.
- Prepares and distributes reports. These include, but may not be limited to; personnel, CAP compliance, safety training, etc. Prepares the Lab for CAP/CLIA and other inspections.
- Performs and teaches others the patient registration process.
- As applicable to assigned area(s): Coordinates performance improvement plans. Identifies, develops, and implements strategies to improve best utilization, lab practice, and patient outcomes.

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
