Job Description:

Network Engineer

Designs, installs, and maintains network systems. Responsible for the secure configuration, operation, and design of Bay Area Hospital's network infrastructure.

POSITION SUMMARY

Designs, installs, and maintains network systems.  Responsible for the secure configuration, operation, and design of Bay Area Hospital's network infrastructure.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with the installation and maintenance of switches, routers, and wireless systems.
  • Maintains computer networks and systems including software, mainframes, VPNs, routers, and other physical hardware
  • Installs and configures network equipment to update or fix hardware or software issues
  • Updates virus protection software to keep data and communications protected
  • Maintains security updates for hospital systems
  • Monitors computer systems to improve network performance for computer systems and networks
  • Communicates networking issues to other employees and management, especially in training new users
  • Fixes software and hardware configuration issues for users on-demand or from inspection of the systems
  • Provides advanced personal computer and printer support
  • Assists in design of new computer and communication system features as needed
  • Troubleshoots problems with installed and new systems
  • Works with vendors as necessary for the selection, implementation and ongoing support of all computer and communications equipment
  • Assists the Network Administrator in understanding various aspects of hospital/job
  • Trains Network Administrator to support assigned job duties in their absence
  • Monitors performance of assigned equipment. (network hardware, servers, applications, etc)
  • Administration of Firewall, VPN, Terminal Services and Citrix,
  • Administration of VLAN, wired and wireless
  • Administers traditional PBX and VoIP Phone systems
  • Administers analog telephone lines for patient use, fax machines, etc.
  • Administers FAX machines. Assists with Network FAX infrastructure
  • Administers various monitoring probes throughout the facility for reporting & compliance purposes
  • Assists with moves and changes to IT systems, with a focus on telephony and communications
  • Assists with emergency radios, overhead paging, off campus telephone line management and cellular telephone management
  • Scheduled rotation in the 24/7 on call schedule
  • Project management and other duties as assigned

  • Advanced knowledge of networking protocols and services
  • Experience with secure configuration of network infrastructure
  • Advanced knowledge of network configuration and design
  • Advanced working knowledge of network infrastructure, switches, routers, wireless
  • Advanced network troubleshooting skills, wired/wireless packet capture, log analysis
  • Ability to proactively manage the security, recovery and/or operation of the network infrastructure in the event of a system failure or other urgent/emergent situation.

  • Excellent knowledge of telephones, fax machines, modems, cable testers, computer shop hand tools and ladders
  • Assists in meeting the organization’s strategic objectives by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to Bay Area Hospital
  • Versatility and ability to handle several responsibilities concurrently, recognizing changes in priorities

  • EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field
  • CCNA certification minimum, CCNP preferred
  • Oregon LEB a plus
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license
  • EXPERIENCE

  • At least 10 years of experience working in network engineering and design
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA data and infrastructure standards
  • Experience working with different models of Cisco network equipment, Nexus, Catalyst, MDS
  • Experience working with traditional and/or VoIP PBX systems

  • Needs adequate color vision. Must wear protective clothing as required.
  • May be required to travel to various locations
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
