Senior Indirect Tax Accountant

As a Senior Tax Accountant in our Indirect Tax team, you will assist in ensuring Thomson Reuters businesses are compliant in all aspects of indirect tax including US Sales and Use Tax, Canadian Goods and Services Tax and Harmonized Sales Tax.  You will also work with our team to employ various automation tools, such as Alteryx and Power BI, to automate processes.  This is a high visibility opportunity for you which requires someone to operate in fast paced environment and balance multiple priority projects at the same time. 

About the Role:

In this opportunity as a Senior Indirect Tax Accountant, you will:

Provide support for the Indirect Tax group in the following areas:

  • Provide support for indirect tax audits.
  • Set-up of sales tax product codes in SAP.
  •  Regularly monitor and update tax matrices to meet compliance requirements.
  • Review and analysis of sales and use tax (SUT), property tax, annual reports and business license matters.
  • Collaborate on research and planning initiatives related to indirect tax issues.
  • Assist with the configuration and troubleshooting related to SUT systems and system implementations.
  • Ensure that business segments have sufficient processes and records in place to support exempt sales.
  • Provide business segments with indirect tax advice and support.
  • Participate in due diligence and acquisition integrations.
  • Prepare Voluntary Disclosure Agreement documents.
  • Assist with various indirect tax projects and initiatives as needed.

About you:

You're a fit for the role of Senior Indirect Tax Accountant, if your background includes: 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Technically proficient in accounting and office software.
  • Strong analytical abilities and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in sales and use tax compliance.

Technical/Professional Skill & Competencies

  • Experience using Microsoft Office, SAP, Alteryx, ONESOURCE suite of software products including ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Determination.
  • Knowledge and experience to determine the proper sales tax treatment of various business and legal transactions.
  • Ability to review all aspects of compliance, indirect tax legislation/regulations/court decisions/rulings affecting indirect tax.
  • Experience in conducting research to assist in the implementation and interpretation of indirect tax laws as they affect the company.
  • Public accounting experience or Master of Business Taxation or working towards one.
