GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB 

The Social Media Specialist/Strategist is responsible for the development, execution, and management of American Equity’s social media strategy across multiple platforms.  The individual collaborates with stakeholders to deliver a high-quality social media experience that meets both brand and business objectives. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Executes social media end to end, including content planning, creation, review, scheduling, monitoring, and engaging according to company policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Integrated Brand Marketing Strategist to refine the American Equity and Eagle Life social media strategies to drive awareness, engagement, and conversion.
  • Community Management: Monitors our online community and engages appropriately by responding to comments or mentions in a manner that helps build the brand and protect brand reputation. Elevates risks to appropriate parties internally.
  • Content:
    • Partners with the creative team to develop compelling content tailored to target audiences and specific platforms.
    • Curates relevant content that engages the target and positions us as a thought leader.
    • Collaborates with multiple partners including brand, channel marketing, sales, and internal communications to ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
    • Communicates with management about social media activities. 
  • Campaign Management:
    • Develops, plans, and executes social media campaigns as part of line of business campaigns.
    • Recommends paid social approach and establish test and learn strategy by platform.
    • Educates cross functional partners and social media users on best practices and identifies ongoing training opportunities.
  • Analytics:
    • Collaborates with CX team to establish KPIs, track, report, and optimize.
    • Develops an executive dashboard to deliver regular insights and recommendations.
    • Monitors and analyzes the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices to ensure we are competitive in the space.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None required for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree Marketing or related field; and four (4) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Prior social media marketing experience required. CX and email marketing experience preferred. Background in financial/annuity market writing is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:   

  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, best practices, analytics and scheduling tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging content and campaigns specific to targeted audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong understanding of brand voice.
  • Ability to take ownership of initiatives and projects from conception to completion.
  • Ability to use data and reputable sources to inform strategy and content, analyze data, and identify trends.
  • An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-tasking, managing multiple projects at various stages, and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with SEO, web traffic metrics, and graphic design tools preferred.
