RSM is looking to hire a Senior Tax Associate to join our Professional Services+ practice. PS+ offers customized, specialized resources, insights and integrated solutions to help professional services firms grow, thrive and feel confident in a rapidly changing world.

Professional services firms in accounting, consulting, law and other professions will have access to our wide range of client-centric services, leading tools and tailored solutions to accelerate their growth.

The position provides an opportunity to advance your tax career without the traditional busy season(s) time compression and compliance deadlines. The new position is open due to growth of the Professional Services+ Tax Services through collaborating with PS+ clients and building of unique tax communities with RSM and PS+ clients in the US, Canada, and Caribbean.

Duties and responsibilities are focused on Capabilities (helping our clients serve their clients), Community (building relationships and networks), and Collaboration (meeting needs for clients) as outlined below:

Capabilities:

  • Responsible for managing tax intellectual property from the firm to client portals for both the US and Canada.
  • Oversee the distribution of weekly US Tax Talk publications.
  • Manage the publication of Canada Tax Digest materials.
  • Handle the deployment of Service Models to client portals.
  • Conduct online demonstrations of portals for clients as needed.
  • Build relationships with subject matter experts within the firm to understand tax issues, trends, and hot topics relevant to our clients and their clients.
  • Manage time effectively to balance relationship-building with other responsibilities.
  • Generate and distribute communications to both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Stay current on tax practices and changes in tax law.

Collaboration: 

  • Coordinate and facilitate technical consultation requests from member firms to subject matter experts for both the US and Canada.
  • Conduct limited research to familiarize yourself with the topic of consultation requests.
  • Collaborate with a team to support the Member Desk in handling tax inquiries.
  • Document inquiries and responses in a customer relationship management software or ticketing system.

Community: 

  • Manage and facilitate virtual and limited in-person meetings for peer groups, roundtables, ad-hoc tax software user groups, and other training events as necessary.
  • Work effectively in a team environment to ensure smooth coordination of these events.
  • Utilize project management skills to handle scheduling, attendee registration, and ongoing communication with participants.
  • Manage client lists for technical community groups to ensure accurate and up-to-date records
  • Travel: Less than 5%

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree – preferably in Accounting or related field of study
  • Must be eligible to sit for the CPA exam – or a licensed JD
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a public accounting environment
  • Experience preparing and reviewing tax returns

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters of Accounting
  • CPA, JD, LLM, or EA
  • Strong technical skills in accounting and tax preparation, industry specialization is helpful
  • Ability to work closely with other tax professionals to answer questions or to collect necessary information for tax service requirements as defined by the Firm
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with a national or large regional accounting firm
  • Working knowledge of tax code and technical aspects of tax preparation and compliance
  • Experience in dealing with international, state and local, or other specialty tax matters a plus

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $66,100 - $124,900

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
