Job Description Summary:

This position will support the PI in providing a link between the African American community and researchers at the KU School of Medicine. Job duties will include implementing strategies to launch a Kansas Birth Equity Network focused on empowerment and education on chronic stress and overall African American maternal and infant health; creating and monitoring the OBGYN Best application process, assisting with the coordination of the scholarship and BEST program and coordination of the L&D birth equity work.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • PH - Conduct outreach to implement a birth equity network that promotes, maintains, and improves maternal, paternal, and infant health in the African American community.

  • PH - Provide information on available resources, provide social support and informal counseling, advocate for individuals and community health needs, and provide resources as needed.

  • PH - Collect data to help identify community health needs and community engagement satisfaction with members of the African American community.

  • PH - Responsible for establishing trusting relationships with community members, coalitions, providers, and their families while providing general support and encouragement.

  • OBGYN - Create and monitor the OBGYN BEST application process

  • OBGYN - Assist with the coordination of the scholarship and BEST program

  • OBGYN - Coordinate L&D birth equity work

  • OBGYN - Assist with creating data management form to create equity in our data collection

  • OBGYN - Coordinate and assist with managing future grants-including the Doula program

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in health-related field, human behavior or related field or experience can substitute for education.

Work Experience: Demonstrated ability to communicate well with people at all levels of an organization and work as a member of a team

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in health-related field, human behavior or related field or experience can substitute for education.

Work Experience: Previous experience working with the African American community and Kansas Birth Equity Network

Skills: Ability to be self-directed, manage, organize, set and accomplish project goals

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
