Job Description

As a machinist in our innovation center you will work on collaborating with project teams to support the design, fabrication and assembly of a broad range of custom R&D prototypes and equipment. You will use 3D design software (Inventor) to translate R&D researcher concepts into models and drawings that can be utilized for fabrication and assembly.  Utilize traditional machining equipment (lathes, mills, drills), automated CNC machines and 3D printers to fabricate parts for prototypes.  Prepare parts list and bill of materials to support the purchase of required materials.  Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills will be required to support projects from concept through design, fabrication and start-up.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create, design and install break through and innovative solutions for non-standard lab equipment and custom PRL systems and machining

  • Fabrication prototypes § PCIS programming, HMI interface & Data Acquisition § Custom PRL / MSUC & Lab equipment

  • Specialty water systems and Integrated devices requiring cross-discipline support - Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation

  • Machine Safety & Process Safety · Development of new operative and maintenance procedures · Develop Validation Protocols – IQ/OQ/PQ

  • Trouble shooting (diagnose, root cause analysis, and resolve) · Technical Systems management / upgrades

Job Qualifications

Required

  • A minimum of 3 years of journeyman level of machining skills including the set-up and operation of vertical milling machines, lathes, shear and press brake.

  • Design and fabricate devices from drawings or sketches using machining equipment (manual and CNC) and 3D printers.

  • Programming, set up, and operation of CNC milling machines, using conversational programing is a plus.

  • Develop 3D CAD models of prototypes and equipment

  • Ability to translate general concepts and ideas into working prototypes

  • Strong general mechanical aptitude

  • Collaborate across multi-functional teams

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel...)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Pumps, agitators and small process equipment

  • Mechanical equipment troubleshooting and repair

  • Curious and interest in understanding how mechanisms work
