This role is part of the Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance team. This team is focused on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Blue Origin’s design, manufacturing, and operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health, and safety, product integrity, and continuous improvement processes.

 

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers you will perform inspections involving multiple nondestructive testing (NDT) methods for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of assuring part integrity, quality and life span. This position will directly impact the history of human space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support design teams to optimize inspection of spaceflight hardware including additively manufactured components, composite structures, friction stir welds (FSW), weldments (GTAW, electron beam, and laser),  castings and thermal protection systems
  • Support in-service NDT inspections
  • Assist with Probability of Detection (POD) studies
  • Develop inspection techniques for multiple NDT methods and assist with interpretation of inspection results
  • Review and approve drawings to identify that correct NDT methods are applied
  • Review and approve external supplier inspection techniques
  • Design reference standards for complex inspection types
  • Develop and qualify NDT methods for atypical inspections
  • Establish requirements, generate bid specifications and participate in down select decisions for NDT equipment and systems
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of company NDT certification plans, including training of Level 1 and 2 inspectors per NAS 410 requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years or more experience with eddy current inspection or Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering/physical science discipline with training and experience as an NDT engineer OR Ph. D/M.S. with one at least one year of NDT experience
  • Experience developing NDT inspection plans
  • Experience with 3D parametric CAD software
  • NDT experience in an engineering or research environment
  • Demonstrated experience in innovation and problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team to solve complex problems
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present results to engineering staff
  • Willingness and desire to learn new methods and become certified to help achieve long term mission goals for the team
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience programming in Python and MATLAB
  • Experience with multi-axis robotic/CNC systems
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process, including welding, casting, additive manufacturing and composites fabrication
  • Experience or mastery of the CIVA Software package
  • Experience with custom eddy current probe design for complex inspections
  • ASNT L3 certification or industry equivalent


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $111,690.00-$156,366.00

Other site ranges may differ
