Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for an Engineer Mechanical / Principal Engineer Mechanical to join our team of qualified diverse individuals. This position will be located in Edwards Air Force Base, CA and is assigned to 2nd shift on a 4 - 10B hours/day schedule (Tuesday – Friday).  Candidate must be willing to work extended shifts, weekends and holidays as required to meet program schedule and objectives.

We are looking for self-motivated, proactive, and goal-oriented people to help us grow our services and become even better at what we do. In this role you will be assessing and dispositioning non-conformances as they occur in our test environment. The selected candidate will author detailed engineering direction as well as collaborate readily with support engineering roles in order to ensure the integrity of the final product.   

Key responsibilities include:

  • Act as engineering authority for non-conformances supporting the STRIKE program 

  • Assess, disposition, and buy off non-conformance (MRB) tags and Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) as they arise in the flight test environment.

  • Coordinate with a team of multiple disciplines engineers to determine effective solutions to defects that are innovative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives

  • Basic knowledge of subsystems (electrical, hydraulics, fuels, fluids and propulsion systems) installations, composite structures, & metallic structures

  • Maintain integrity of the Material Review Board (MRB) process and engineering authority

  • Some of the tools you'll be using are NX, VisPro, MES, and TeamCenter

Basic Qualifications (Mechanical Engineer):

  • Must have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 2 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 1 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.

  • Experience with the MRB process

  • Experience with the manufacture and repair of composite structures

  • Experience with the conceptual operation, and troubleshooting of, typical aircraft subsystems

  • Current in-scope DOD Secret Clearance 

  • Ability to obtain a Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs. 

Basic Qualifications (Principal Mechanical Engineer):

  • Must have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 3 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.

  • Experience providing autonomous engineering support

  • Experience briefing senior leadership on team progress and goals

  • Experience with the MRB process

  • Experience with the manufacture and repair of composite structures

  • Experience with the conceptual operation, and troubleshooting of, typical aircraft subsystems

  • Current in-scope DOD Secret Clearance 

  • Ability to obtain a Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs. 

Preferred Qualifications: (Both Job Levels)

  • Previous MRB/LE Authority for Engineering

  • Experience with TeamCenter and NX, Visualization Professional, or other CAD program

  • Experience working hands-on in a production assembly line environment

  • Experience with Model Based Engineering (MBE ) (3-D model engineering definition)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership, and problem solving abilities

  • In-scope DoD Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $87,200.00 - $130,800.00Salary Range 2: $107,300.00 - $160,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
