JOB SUMMARY

The Electrical Mechanical Maintenance Person is responsible for both electrical and mechanical works and performs regular and preventative maintenance on electro-mechanical systems.  The Electrical Mechanical Maintenance is also responsible for annual and preventative maintenance.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
 

The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not necessarily restricted to the following:

  • Interact with foreman and supervisor, co-workers, and administrative office to maintain smooth operations

  • Monitor and record accurate readings on a daily basis

  • Maintain good housekeeping practices

  • Ensure that own work is carried out in accordance with Company policies and procedures and in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Learn and maintain a working knowledge of all plant equipment

  • Perform annual and preventative maintenance

  • Ensure proper use and care of power tools, chain saw, drills, etc.

  • Ensure proper use and care of hand tools

  • Ensure proper care and use of company motor vehicle

  • Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting

  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting

  • Work on a dam using appropriate safety equipment

  • Be available for call-in, as needed (nights, weekends, holidays)

  • General building & grounds maintenance work such as:  painting, snow shoveling, snow plowing, grass mowing, weed eating, raking, window washing, etc.

  • Learn and apply knowledge of safety procedures:  hard hats, safety belts, eye protection, ear protection, etc.

  • Awareness of potential problems and initiate corrective action before it becomes a problem or notify supervisor if unable to take action

  • Awareness of changing weather conditions as they pertain to hydro operations

  • Perform water details, such as putting out buoys using a boat

  • Responsible for dam operations including maintenance, monthly inspections, and removing and installing stop logs and gate controls

  • Comply with all company employment and safety policies

  • Participate in formal training classes

  • Perform other tasks as delegated by the supervisor or foreman

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED)

  • Relevant experience considered an asset

  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge considered an asset

  • English essential, both oral and written; bilingual English/French considered an asset.

  • Valid driver’s license -  Class G

The terms and conditions of employment are governed by the collective agreement between Chaudière Water Power Inc. and Unifor, Local 636.
