Caterpillar’s Earthmoving products (Motor Graders (MG), Medium Wheel Loaders (MWL), Medium Tractor Products (MTP) and Paving Products) play a big role in helping our customers build a better world. This challenge means our product development teams must be proactive in developing new machines with ground-breaking fuel efficiency (such as advanced powertrains) or zero emissions.  If you’re a seasoned engineer and this sounds like a challenge, you’d like to be part of taking on, then we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the team as a Senior Engineering Specialist!  In this role, you will focus your time on advanced electrification concepts and implementing systems for the product development teams across the Earthmoving division.  You will not only focus on performance, but how the system components and architecture affect machine cost, as well the overall machine efficiency.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead electrification system tradeoff analysis to recommend systems and components that maximize customer value and shareholder return.  This includes machine performance, R&D, program schedules, parts business, durability and rebuild capability.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline teams to define and develop electrified systems.
  • Work with global engineering teams across different cultures and time zones to facilitate delivery of projects successfully.
  • Serve as technical point of contact for Caterpillar engineering teams
  • Collaborate with the product groups to define and negotiate system requirements
  • Direct, perform, and/or review VPD analyses to determine system architecture and component specifications.
  • Oversee and participate in component and system DMFEAs and test and validation planning.
  • Manage the Research and New Technology Introduction portfolio for electrification.
  • Participate in the APQP process including supplier visits, process validation activities, and quality problem resolution

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Degree requirement: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering (preferability in Mechanical, Electrical, Agricultural Engineering)
  • Technical Excellence: Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a deep technical and functional understanding of machine systems and components, and the ability to author technical content in a clear and concise manner.
  • Engineering: Previous work experience with powertrain component development or machine system development in two or more of the following functional areas:
    • Transmissions Systems (including Electric Drive & Hystat)
    • Lower powertrain
    • Powertrain Controls
    • Machine Controls
    • Performance Engineering
    • Electrification components, systems, or systems integration.
  • Effective Communication: Possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills to collaborate effectively within cross-functional problem-solving teams and cross-organizational product teams, including interaction with Chief Engineers, NPI Managers, and Project Managers. Demonstrates strong initiative and the ability to self-start in dynamic environments.

Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Completed Machine / Vehicle NPI Development Program as Technical or Platform Leader.
  • Deep expertise in powertrain development, performance, manufacture, and product support.
  • Machine Performance or Controls experience.
  • Experience working with electrified components or systems.
  • Progressive experience in the following:
    • Machine / Vehicle Development in a design or validation functions.
    • Industry experience with Earthmoving products.

  • 15-20% travel is expected (international and domestic)
