The primary focus of this position is to safely perform all aspects of coal mine mechanical maintenance.

Job Description:
 

Essential Duties:

  • Repair and maintain mobile equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic, air mechanical and air conditioning systems
  • Operate overhead crane, field service vehicles, and variety of maintenance tooling
  • Use computer to generate work orders and parts requisitions.  Complete work orders as to maintenance procedures used and utilize computer to document appropriately for accurate communication
  • Start heavy equipment
  • Perform tune-ups and adjustments to components
  • Read and interpret service manuals, parts books, prints and hydraulic and electrical schematics
  • Perform lock-out/tag-out procedures as required
  • Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal regulations

Other Duties:

  • Operate light maintenance equipment including service vehicles
  • Assist maintenance with moving of heavy equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong work ethic with effective communication skills
  • Must possess knowledge of engines, water pumps and cooling systems, under carriage, electrical systems, hydraulic components, drive train, brake and air condition systems
  • Must be able to pass all applicable tests and requirements
  • Rotating shift work is required and must be able to work up to 12-hour shifts

Education and Training:

  • Two years of maintenance work experience with heavy equipment or a diesel mechanic associate’s degree is preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED is required

The hourly wage for these positions ranges from a starting salary of $48.13 to $59.43 per hour.  Also, we offer a great benefits package to include a 401k savings plan with a 5% employer match and retirement contribution of an additional 6%, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and other incentives, including vacation and holidays.  Benefits are offered on the first day of employment.

Freedom Mine mechanics are scheduled to work 14 shifts per 28-day cycle. That equates to being scheduled to work six months out of the year. Other work benefits are: 1) work at the same location every day; and 2) the work schedule is set for the entire calendar year.
