What you'll do...

Director, Product Management – New Revenue Streams

The Walmart Data Ventures Director of Product Management will lead overall product design to support merchant and supplier collaboration within the Data Commercialization portfolio workspace. Manage product development from concept to market; mindset to build and vision products for scale and how each product interrelates across the platform; envision features and functionality that provide differentiation in the market and competitive advantage for WMT (raise the bar for our Merchants and Suppliers).​ Will lead change management and influence at the executive level.

The Walmart Data Ventures team exists to unlock the full value of Walmart’s data by developing and productizing B2B data initiatives that empower merchants and suppliers to make better, faster decisions for the business.  As part of this transformation, we’re seeking entrepreneurial individuals to help drive data productization from concept to deployment. 

Responsibilities Include...

  • Opportunity Identification and Evaluation
    • Market Research: Conduct thorough research to identify emerging trends, market gaps, and customer pain points that could be addressed with new products or revenue streams.
    • Competitive Analysis: Analyze competitors’ offerings to identify opportunities for differentiation or areas where competitors might be lacking.
    • Opportunity Assessment: Evaluate potential opportunities based on factors such as market size, growth potential, alignment with company strengths, and profitability.
  • Concept Development
    • Ideation: Brainstorm and generate innovative product ideas or revenue models based on research and insights.
    • Feasibility Studies: Assess the technical and financial feasibility of proposed concepts, including resource requirements and potential return on investment.
    • Prototype Development: Create and refine prototypes or proof-of-concept models to validate the viability of the product or revenue opportunity.
  • Business Case Creation
    • Value Proposition: Define and articulate the value proposition of the new product or revenue stream, including unique selling points and benefits to customers.
    • Financial Modeling: Develop financial models to project revenue, costs, and profitability. Prepare detailed business cases to support decision-making.
    • Go-to-Market Strategy: Formulate initial go-to-market strategies, including target audience, pricing strategy, and distribution channels.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Coordination: Work closely with various departments such as engineering, marketing, sales, and finance to align on goals and ensure the feasibility of the new opportunities.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including potential customers, industry experts, and partners, to gather feedback and refine ideas.
  • Pilot Testing and Validation
    • Market Testing: Execute pilot programs or beta tests to gather real-world data on product performance, customer feedback, and market reception.
    • Data Analysis: Analyze test results to assess product viability, identify potential improvements, and gauge market demand.
  • Project Management
    • Planning: Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets for validating new opportunities.
    • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to address challenges that arise during the validation process.
    • Reporting: Regularly update senior management on progress, key findings, and recommendations.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing
    • Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of research findings, development processes, and test results.
    • Knowledge Transfer: Share insights and learnings with other teams and departments to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Scaling and Implementation
    • Scaling Strategy: Develop strategies for scaling successful pilots or new revenue models into full-scale products or business units.
    • Implementation Planning: Collaborate with relevant teams to transition successful concepts into operational processes, including scaling production and rolling out marketing initiatives.

  • Help drive Data Ventures’ overall strategy, roadmap, priorities, and planning across the team 
  • Provides overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs 
  • Develop, communicate, build support for, and implement business strategies, plans, and practices 
  • Determine and support resource requirements 
  • Responsible for product satisfaction rating 
  • Scales with an enterprise-level approach 
  • Sets and guides the overall sales strategy to ensure highest valuation by directing sales and the management of key accounts 
  • Manages product managers, scrum teams, and product support 
  • Drive portfolio strategy to maximize NPV and ultimately revenue potential  
  • Develop new data product concepts, from initial use case exploration to complete go to market recommendation.  
  • Identify ways to improve product performance and extend lifecycle, across the Data Ventures portfolio 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Startup or new product/business experience and mindset strongly  
  • Experience in retail/eComm, B2B products, or data/analytics industries
